RW Boston Herald's Schorow claimes "proof" CBS memos fraud -BUT
the source cited does not provide "proof" - only that he has concluded that the effort needed on the IBM Composer was more than one could expect - and that he therefore concludes that they were a fraud. The blogger at shapeofdays.typepad.com was the source for her "excruciating details" that she implied proved her point.

Well, that blogger had contacted Gerry Kaplan who actually has an IBM composer Selectric (at ibmcomposer.org, which describes itself as "the only site on the Internet completely dedicated to the IBM 'Selectric' Composer line of typesetting machines."

He duplicated the memos using the IBM version of Times New Roman that the Composer used, and found that getting the heading centered was difficult - and that the same centering was on 2 memos written months apart and both were "perfect" - easy via Microsoft Word but hard for a typist. The "TH" duplicated well but took effort to make. Finally using Adobe Photoshop and superimposing them he found that there was a good match - but not an exact match that appeared to, perhaps, be due to letterspacing between the Composer Times Romman font used to test the theory, and the font used in the memos.

But the 10th generation photocopies make being certain impossible.

And "could have" remains out there.

Besides - no one said the same typewriter that made the heading, typed the body of the documents!

I wonder why Bush has not brought in the folks on Gov staff that know the typewriter presentation of every typewriter system ever made?

Perhaps they might find out too much? I mean, if Docs are a fraud, the fellow doing the fraud knew the original contents of the Lt. Col's CYA memos - per the Lt Col's secretary.

Interesting!

:-)
