WASHINTON, March 19 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Speaker of the House J. Dennis Hastert and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist released the following statement today on the legislative agreement to save Terri Schiavo’s life:

"We're pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement on legislation which provides an opportunity to save Mrs. Schiavo's life. This legislation will allow a federal district judge to consider a claim by or on behalf of Mrs. Schiavo for alleged violations of Constitutional rights or federal laws relating to the withholding or withdrawal of food, fluids, or medical treatment necessary to sustain her life. We want to thank Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid for working with us towards a legislative solution. The House and Senate will act as quickly as possible to send this legislation to the President for his signature.

"The Senate will meet today at 5:00 p.m. to pass an adjournment. Passing an adjournment resolution will enable us to bring both the House and Senate back into session under our emergency powers. The House will meet at 1:00 pm on Sunday, March 20th in the hope of receiving unanimous consent to take up the measure. If unanimous consent cannot be attained, the measure will be considered on the House Suspension Calendar as early as 12:01 a.m. Monday, March 21. The Senate will continue to work through the weekend to ensure the bill can be passed shortly after the House has acted."

WASHINGTON, March 19 /U.S. Newswire/ -– House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) today delivered the following remarks at a press availability on the latest efforts to save the life of Terri Schiavo:

"I am here to announce that House and Senate negotiators have agreed to the outlines of a bipartisan, bicameral compromise bill to save Terri Schiavo.

"As you know, the Senate will come into extraordinary session around five o'clock this afternoon to pass an adjournment resolution. Once that resolution is passed in the Senate, Speaker Hastert is empowered to call the House back into emergency session, which he will do tomorrow afternoon —- Palm Sunday -— at one o'clock.

"This proposed compromise, as I said, is bipartisan and bicameral. Negotiations have never stopped, and we think we have found a solution. It is very similar to the bill passed in the Senate Thursday, with some modest modifications.

"We have been in frequent contact throughout the day with leaders in both houses and on both sides of the aisle to find a solution to this situation. I have personally been in contact with several House Democrats who are now working their caucus to explain and build momentum for this compromise measure, and Senator Reid has been helpful doing the same in the Senate.

"This is not over, but this compromise has cut across every division in Congress, and all sides agree it is the best way to proceed. We are confident this compromise addresses everyone's concerns, we are confident it will provide Mrs. Schiavo a clear and appropriate avenue for appeal in federal court, and most importantly, we are confident this compromise will restore nutrition and hydration to Mrs. Schiavo as long as that appeal endures."

WASHINGTON, March 19 /U.S. Newswire/ -– House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) today criticized the U.S. Supreme Court's refusal to explain its decision to deny an appeal that would allow Terri Schiavo to continue receiving food and water. The appeal, which was filed by the general counsel for the U.S. House of Representatives, called for the Supreme Court to modify the order placed by Florida Judge George Greer to remove Schiavo's feeding tube in order for her to appear as a witness at a House Government Reform Committee hearing on March 25, 2005.

"While I respectfully disagree with the Supreme Court's decision, the justices' refusal to offer any explanation or guidance -– knowing that Congress is working around the clock to save the life of a defenseless dying woman –- is a moral and legal tragedy.

"The Supreme Court owes it to Terri Schiavo and her family -– and, frankly, to the dignity of human life -– to explain their decision so that Congress can properly focus its continuing work to replace Mrs. Schiavo's feeding tube.

"When this tragic episode is resolved, the Supreme Court will have some serious questions to answer about its silence and arbitrary interpretation of federalism, but those questions will have to wait for now.

"In the meantime, the fight is not over. We will continue to work with the Senate to negotiate a legislative solution, and we won't rest until we find one. Mrs. Schiavo's struggle to live, our fight to save her, and the American people's prayers will all continue."

WASHINGTON, March 18 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Speaker of the House J. Dennis Hastert and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist released the following statement today:

"We're very disappointed by the Florida court's decision to allow Terri Schiavo's feeding tube to be removed. The House and Senate leadership are committed to reaching an agreement on legislation that provides an opportunity to save Mrs. Schiavo's life. Now that the House and Senate have each passed different legislative remedies, the House and Senate Committees are working urgently together. We will be working through the weekend to resolve the differences and reach an effective solution that can clear our chambers and be signed by the President."

CHARLOTE, N.C., March 18 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following is a statement by Reverend Flip Benham, director, Operation Rescue/Operation Save America:

At 3 p.m. EST, the feeding and hydration tubes were removed from Terri Schaivo. This is indeed a shocking turn of events since Judge Greer had to ignore a subpoena from the Congress of the United States of America.

This day will be a benchmark in the face off between the culture of death and the culture of life. A line has been drawn. The die has been cast. And the day has come where we must choose -- life or death. I am thankful for our rich Biblical heritage that when death came to the door, and the tyrants of the age shouted their threats, there were those who took them on in the name of Jesus.

Terri Schaivo is God's gift to us. We are not God's gift to her. Her plight has been brought to the forefront so that we might take care of her. It has been said that the measure of a nation is how we take care of those at the dawn of life (newborns), those at the twilight of life (the elderly), and those in the shadows of life (the sick and the handicapped) -- those like Terri Schaivo. We need to be a people who are not only vexed in our souls by the injustice we see in our time, but a people who know we have been born for such a time as this. We must love Terri with more than just our words. We must act on her behalf.

If it is inevitable that Terri must die, it is imperative that she not die alone.

We will be coming to Florida to do exactly what Jesus would do -- to bring her food and water.

WASHINGTON, March 18 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Throw Away The Key, a victim advocacy group that works on behalf of past and future victims of crime, issued the following statement tonight about the case of Terri Schiavo, whose death sentence was started today, with the removal of her feeding tube:

"America's courts can't have it both ways," said Michael Paranzino, president of Throw Away The Key. "When it comes to serial killers, cop killers, and other monsters, the courts bend over backwards to keep them alive. Even twenty years later, most convicted killers are still enjoying three square meals a day. But the courts have not hesitated to order Ms. Schiavo killed, based solely on a self-serving and unconfirmed claim about something she once allegedly said while watching TV. Her only crime is being inconvenient.

"Either Terri Schiavo deserves the same, decades-long court delays that killers routinely get, or it's time to begin enforcing the death penalty with the same passion that the courts are exhibiting in their thirst to kill an innocent woman," Paranzino added.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., March 18 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Focus on the Family Chairman Dr. James C. Dobson issued the following statement today in response to a Florida state judge's decision to allow Terri Schiavo to be starved to death:

"Terri Schiavo has done nothing to deserve the death sentence she has been handed by Circuit Court Judge George Greer. She is a disabled woman guilty of nothing more than marrying a man who has not taken seriously his vows to love and protect her for as long as they both shall live.

"Judge Greer's defiance in ignoring federal subpoenas issued so that Congress can investigate the circumstances of Terri's case is just the latest example of his hubris. He has for 5 years been on a quest to use his authority to end her life -- and if his arrogant ruling today is allowed to stand, he will have finally succeeded.

"Congress, and the Florida Legislature, must not let this travesty stand. They must continue to work to ensure that the weakest among us, who cannot speak for themselves, have the same legal rights and protections that even the most heinous criminals are afforded."

WASHINGTON, March 18 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) today condemned the removal of Terri Schiavo's feeding tube and pledged to continue working for a legal or legislative means to save her life.

"Right now, murder is being committed against a defenseless American citizen in Florida," DeLay said. "Terri Schiavo's feeding tube should be immediately replaced, and Congress will continue working to explore ways to save her.

"Mrs. Schiavo's life is not slipping away - it is being violently wrenched from her body in an act of medical terrorism," DeLay said. "Mr. Schiavo's attorney's characterization of the premeditated starvation and dehydration of a helpless woman as 'her dying process' is as disturbing as it is unacceptable. What is happening to her is not compassion - it is homicide. She doesn't need to die, and as long as Terri Schiavo can breathe and her supporters can pray, we will not rest."

News Advisory:

-- House and Senate Leadership Commended for Holding Hearings and Issuing Subpoenas in Order to Delay Starvation of Terri Schiavo

-- Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid and Democrat Senators Ron Wyden, Carl Levin and Barbara Boxer, Still Refuse to Allow a Vote on House Bill Passed Unanimously to Save Life of Terri Schiavo

Christian Coalition of America urges the House and Senate leadership to pass the "Terri Schiavo Law" on Monday, whether it be the House bill passed unanimously or the Senate bill also passed unanimously. Christian Coalition commends the actions by the Senate and House leadership to hold hearings and to issue subpoenas for Terri Schiavo's husband, Michael Schiavo, and her caregivers to appear before congressional committees in a few days.

Majority Leader Tom DeLay in a 1 p.m. Friday press conference said that Senators Boxer, Wyden, and Levin "have put Terri Schiavo's life in danger because of petty squabbles." Senator Mike Enzi, (R-WY), has requested that Terri Schiavo herself testify before his Health, Education, Labor, and Pension (HELP) Committee.

President Bush said he would sign a bill approved by both the House and the Senate. Unfortunately, the Senate Democrat Minority Leader, Harry Reid, (NV) and Democrat Senators Ron Wyden, (OR), Barbara Boxer (CA) and Carl Levin (MI) still representing the views of many in the "party of death" have refused to allow a vote on the Sensenbrenner/Weldon bill passed unanimously in the U.S. House on Wednesday night.

Time is of the essence. Terri Schiavo's husband, Michael Schiavo removed Terri's feeding tube today. This act will cause Terri Schiavo to suffer an extremely painful death over a 2-week period. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's office said congressional lawyers will appeal to the Florida Circuit Court of Appeals to reinstate the feeding tubes of Terri Schiavo.

Here are the Action Items that need to be accomplished immediately:

1. Christian Coalition activists need to call Speaker Dennis Hastert (202-225-0600) and Senator Majority Leader Bill Frist (202-224-3135) to urge them to schedule a vote on Monday and pass the "Terri Schiavo Law" by unanimous consent on Monday in order to save Terri Schiavo's life.

2. Call your Member of the House and both Senators to urge them to ask their congressional leaders to schedule a vote on the "Terri Schiavo Law" on Monday (202-225-3121).

Please keep the above issue in your prayers. Through prayer great and mighty things can be accomplished.

WASHINGTON, March 18 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Judie Brown, president of American Life League, issued the following statement regarding the inhumane death sentence imposed upon Terri Schiavo today with the removal of her feeding tube:

"What is happening to Terri Schiavo right now is truly a tragedy. Despite what Judge George Greer, the lawyers and the news media want the public to think, Terri Schiavo is not a 'vegetable,' nor is she 'terminally ill.' Terri functions as a living, breathing, human person who is sustained by normal hydration and nutrition -– the same as every other living human person. However, as a result of today's implementation of the order to have Terri's hydration and nutrition sources removed, she will die a slow and excruciatingly painful death.

"The suffering Terri will experience throughout the remainder of her days on earth is completely avoidable, as is the suffering that her parents and so many others who respect Terri as a human person will continue to undergo. The death sentence enacted on Terri today is truly a form of cruel and unusual punishment. Terri is among the most innocent and defenseless human persons on this earth and is certainly unworthy of the treatment she is receiving from her estranged husband and the state of Florida.

"While the situation looks bleak, we must not give up hope. Now more than ever, all people of faith –- most notably Terri's own Catholic Church –- must offer prayers for her survival. It is absolutely necessary that Bishop Robert Lynch of St. Petersburg, along with his brother bishops across Florida and the rest of the United States, lead the faithful in petitions on Terri's behalf. If we allow Terri to die in this manner, it will mark the beginning of the acceptance of euthanasia throughout the country. Every human person deserves respect, from fertilization until natural death. Terri Schiavo is no exception. We must pray for a miracle to save her life."

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., March 18 /U.S. Newswire/ -– Focus on the Family Senior Analyst for Bioethics Carrie Gordon Earll issued the following statement today in response to moves by the U.S. Congress in defense of Terri Schiavo:

"The last 48 hours represent a remarkable effort on the part of members of the U.S. Congress to protect the life of a disabled but otherwise healthy woman in Florida. Congressional leadership is willing to do what Pinellas Circuit Court Judge George Greer is not: meet Terri Schiavo face-to-face and investigate her situation with their own eyes. By its recent actions, Congress has displayed more courage and diligence than Judge Greer –- and deserves our praise.

"Terri Schiavo's fate is still not certain. Throughout the ongoing legal and political debate surrounding this case, we cannot lose sight of the fact that this is not about Terri's so-called 'right to die'; it is about her right to live. A civilized society must always err on the side of life, not death.

"There are several legislative options still pending in Terri's case, including two bills passed by the U.S. Congress. Legislative action on these bills so far is a direct result of the hundreds of thousands of supportive telephone calls and e-mails sent to members of Congress and the Florida Legislature by people across the country who care about Terri's fate. People of faith who respect human life should be applauded for their commitment to speak up for her in these critical hours."

WASHINGTON, March 18 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) today delivered the following remarks at a press availability on the House of Representatives' efforts to save the life of Terri Schiavo:

"It is now one o'clock on the East Coast, the time preordained by a Florida state judge to allow for denial of food and water to Terri Schiavo. This act of barbarism can be, and must be, prevented. The Senate has before it the Protection of Incapacitated Persons Act of 2005. This bill is the right thing to do. Unfortunately, they have chosen to adjourn rather than pass it.

"Those senators responsible for blocking the bill yesterday afternoon, Senators Boxer, Wyden, and Levin, have put Mrs. Schiavo's life at risk to prove a point - an unprecedented profile in cowardice. The American people are not interested in squabbles between Republicans and Democrats, or between the House and Senate. They care, and we care, about saving Terri Schiavo's life. The House bill will do that.

"Terri Schiavo is alive. She is not 'barely alive.' She is not 'being kept alive.' She is as alive as you or I, and as such we have a moral obligation to protect and defend her from the fate premeditated by the Florida courts. This is not over. We are still working, so are Mrs. Schiavo's lawyers, and so is the Florida state legislature. This is not over.

"To friends, family, and millions of people praying around the world this Palm Sunday weekend: do not be afraid. Terri Schiavo will not be forsaken."

16. The Passion of Terri Shiavo - Orlando Sentinel Special

Some would argue that to remove her feeding tube is simply to let nature take its course. Yet what is "natural" about starving to death? True, she was fed through a feeding tube -- she depends on others, but so did Christopher Reeve, and so does a newborn baby depend on others for nutrition and hydration. John Donne said: "No man is an island entire of itself". As members of the human race we all are interdependent on each other to one degree or another. The mark of a civilized society was that the helpless had the greatest claim on our protection. Now it would seem that they have the least.

And so, Holy Week, the annual remembrance of Jesus' passion and death, begins with the Passion of Terri Schiavo. Terri's agony has already begun and, barring some miracle, the denouement of Terri's drama will be her death.

From the cross Jesus cried out, and his cry is echoed today by all those held captive to a world of pain and sin.

As Terri shares in his passion, she will share in his Resurrection. Like Jesus did, Terri Schiavo cries out, though with muted voice: "I thirst!"

18. The point of all these posts is to demonstrate how the Rove machine....
