Let`s face it. The days of Walter Cronkite are O-V-E-R. Better clear your head of this left wing idealism and get with the new program.
Look. CNN gave Wolf that tall chair because he earned the right to speak with Moral Authority. Do you think it was easy for him to remind Americans that Bob Novak is a better Catholic than Paul Begala? Wolf has a very important job...like saving the children from Janet Jackson`s big breast or maybe a shark attack in New Jersey. In fact, I think it was Wolf`s close-up of Martha Stewart`s ankle bracelet that finally made me understand the potential soul-crushing damage in one of her Lemon Torte recipes.
There is just no reason for Wolf to stir up a bunch of worry and anxiety by reporting on stories that shouldn`t concern us. If we start sticking our noses in the problems in Africa we might be too depressed to shop and then our economy would suffer. That, my friends, is about as unAmerican as you can get....screwing up the shopping. And, what if Wolf managed to get a hidden camera in one of those Palestinian olive groves....the ones they used to own? That could cause a big problem next time Mr.Bush wanted to invite Mr. Sharon to a Texas barbecue. Wolf knows this so he tries to err on the side of patriotism.
It`s different now. We have a lot of instant and automatic stuff, even in the media. Newsreaders like Wolf can concentrate on the human interest stories (high speed chases, panda bear mating) because the White House writes the scripts for the news outlets. Keeps everyone on message which turns out to be a great public service. You can be in the kitchen listening to NBC, run into the living room where CNN is on and guess what? You`ll still get the same story. It`s great. Try to ease up on Wolf, okay? No sense in trying to rile things up now that he has the country all quieted down.
