Joanne on Franken
Franken's last caller was a single mom named Joanne who said that, even though she really needed the low prices, she's stayed out of Walmart. She explained to her kids that the employees were badly treated and that they mattered. So, her kids couldn't have toys from there. What do you bet her kids grow up to be great people with a lot of empathy for others?

You go, Joanne! :bounce:

2. Good for you
I'm lucky enough to have a good job and don't need to pinch pennies. I so admire people who could really use the help but take a principled stand. :yourock:

The show is awesome, btw.

3. Have you seen the latest glurge Wal-Mart ad, though?
A male employee has a son who was born with some pretty significant congenital problems - needed heart surgery and a new liver. The man goes on to say how wonderful Wal-Mart is that they "took care of everything."

That is such a load. My mom worked for them for awhile. When the store first opened, she was fulltime plus overtime, full benefits. After they had squeezed some local competition out of the picture, they started cutting hours. They cut my mom's hours just below the level at which they have to provide benefits.

Fucking bastards. Wal-Mart will never see a dime of my money, especially now that there's Costco.

4. My son and I don't call it WalMart. . .
we call it the big nasty multinational corporation store. . .

We tend to avoid it like the plague. But in a weak moment, in a hurry, doing some errands I broke down and bought some glad and dahlia bulbs that I couldn't find anywhere else because it was late in the season.

The bulbs were totally dried out. My son's grandmother ratted me out. He roasted me for it. Never again will I cave to the big nasty multinational corporation store.

5. Don't just limit yourself to Wal-Mart
I'm glad to see so many people sticking it to Wal-Mart, but they are not alone in deserving boycotting. I haven't been in a Wal-Mart in almost 2 years. Same goes for Home Depot (and I'm from their headquarters - Atlanta).

Safeway, Anheuser-Busch, Pfizer, Hallmark, FedEx, Verizon, The Limited, Amway, Enterprise Rent-A-Car...all are huge Republican donors. Domino's Pizza - owned by a psycho Republican who gives huge donations to the GOP, as well as the owner of Outback Steakhouse.

Whatever you do, don't let any woman you know join that new gym, Curves. It's owned by a militant anti-abortionist who advocates the killing of abortion doctors (and just happens to live next to George H.W. Bush).

And this one hurts the most as I live in the South, but no more Waffle House - 100% of corporate donations go to the GOP.

I know there are more, but denying any of these corporations any money to give to people who are trying to ruin this country is just a small thing to do.

6. And, sadly, Krispy Kreme.

100% of donations to the Repukes.

I can't boycott them completely, but that makes it a little easier to turn them down once in a while.

On edit: By the way, welcome to DU!
