Average CEO compensation at the 50 companies outsourcing the most service jobs rose by 46 percent in 2003 from a year earlier, compared with a 9 percent increase for CEOs at 365 big companies overall, the study by the left-leaning Institute for Policy Studies and United for a Fair Economy found.

1. of course: they are maximizing shareholder value
Outsourcing allows more profit margin, so these CEOs are clearly more successful.

That is, if you measure economic health by shareholder value.

2. Didn't CEO salaries go way up before the Great Depression?
Everyone was borrowing then, and not working much, to buy the fruits of new-found industrialization productivity!

...for a while...
