EU Energy Chief Seeks To Win Skeptics Over To Nuclear Pwr
"BRUSSELS -- European Union Energy Commissioner Loyola de Palacio Monday called for increased E.U. control over Europe's nuclear power sector as she seeks to win over a skeptical public as her term in office draws to a close.

De Palacio has promoted nuclear power - seen as politically incorrect through much of Europe - during her five-year term ending in November...

..."Dwindling oil and gas reserves, the scale of the fight against climate change, the difficulties associated with the penetration of renewable energies, all of these elements force us to face the reality: that nuclear must remain an option," de Palacio told the French parliament... "

From Today's Wall Street Journal.

In Europe, there are, as here, a cadre of people who are (absurdly) called "environmentalists" who oppose nuclear power on the rather (also absurd) grounds that nuclear energy creates "waste" (as if other forms of energy were all waste free).

Real environmentalists actually are extremely anxious that nuclear energy be expanded as rapidly as is possible.
