Mountaintop Mining Activist Wins Global Award
By VICKI SMITH, Associated Press Writer Vicki Smith, Associated Press Writer – Sun Apr 19, 11:05 pm ET

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – In Maria Gunnoe's 11-year war over the strip mining she says has ruined her homestead, there have been casualties: Family dogs have been poisoned and shot and her truck's fuel tank has been stuffed with sand.

Yet she keeps fighting to stop mountaintop removal mining..

She won the Goldman Environmental Prize:

1. That is so wonderful
I cannot imagine what this woman has gone through in order to tell the truth about what's happening, and still she works at it.

2. the videos of her..
Videos on YouTube of her telling what happened to her home and the mountains are the first I ever saw of mountaintop removal.

It made me so sick. Now I'm also sick that everyone's not jumping up and demanding it to stop.
