Report answers questions of "missing" rods from old nuclear plant
SALMON CREEK, Calif. <snip>

An interim report to the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission says that three fuel rods that are unaccounted from the decommissioned Humboldt Bay Power Plant near Eureka are probably sitting in the bottom of a storage pool. <snip>

The report says an extensive search didn't uncover the rods because they had been cut up before being stored in the pool.

Pacific Gas and Electric, the owner of the decommissioned plant, had been searching for the rods since last summer.

1. And the point is?
I wish somebody noticed where 85 billion tons of coal waste goes every few weeks, but I guess everyone on the planet would rather focus on this, missing fuel rods. After all, it has that magic word "nuclear" that brings out the worst idiocy in people.

It's better than thinking.

2. An instructive example of media coverage: there's a headline ...
... 'Report answers questions of "missing" rods' and a first sentence 'A report .. is clearing up some of the questions etc'
neither of which quite seems to match the following sentences ('An interim report .. says rods .. are probably .. in the bottom of a .. pool').

Well, there ya have it! Nothing more to say!
