10:10 Campaign pulls mini-movie No Pressure
http://hot-topic.co.nz/no-pressure-1010-on-the-button/

James Delingpole piles on with an article titled: "Eco-fascism jumps the shark: massive, epic fail!"

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/jamesdelingpole/100056586/eco-fascism-jumps-the-shark-massive-epic-fail/

While the folks over at HotTopic are trying to spin this as skeptics having no sense of humor, personally I didn't get the promo at all. In fact, when I first viewed the movie I thought it was a parody produced by a skeptic group. Go green or we'll kill you? Is that supposed to be funny? In order to be funny, it would have to be outrageously inconceivable. Given that in the last five years environmentalists have taken to equating global warming with the Holocaust and skeptics with the Nazis, the clip doesn't present something that is inconceivable. It presents something that many view as the logical next step.

1. I sort of got the promo, but it was way out there.
My first thought, like yours, was that it was a parody. Then it reminded me of current British comedy (and the writer also wrote the Blackadder series, so I wasn't too far off), but some humor doesn't cross the pond very well.

But 10:10 has taken down the video from their website and posted an apology for any offense they may have caused. Alas, no before the damage was done.

2. It was very strange
It is very similar to a recurrent sketch a couple of British comedians do on TV now - in which, after a normal conversation of some kind, one of the participants picks up a microphone after the other have left, and, in his best James Bond Villain voice, says "keeell them". eg: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUP3A9imOYU

But in those, of course, the evilness of it is played up for laughs, and it's a complete wrench from whatever comes before. I can't work out why it was thought good to portray the advocates of 10:10 like that. Perhaps the idea was "if you don't take part, you're doing your bit to kill other people, so it would be poetic justice for you to die", but that really seems like an extreme message to me.
