Fukushima Faces ‘Massive’ Radioactive Water Problem - Bloomberg
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-05-27/tepco-faces-massive-problem-containing-radioactive-water-at-fukushima.html

Academics warn TEPCO has failed to disclose the scale of radiation leaks <...>

“Tepco knows more than they’ve said about the amount of radiation leaking from the plant,” Jan van de Putte, a specialist in radiation safety trained at the Technical University of Delft in the Netherlands, said yesterday in Tokyo. “What we need is a full disclosure, a full inventory of radiation released including the exact isotopes.”

The government plans to release details on the radiation released at the “appropriate time,” said Goshi Hosono, an adviser to Prime Minister Naoto Kan <...>

1. How terrible.
Thanks for keeping DU up-to-date on what's happening, flamingdem. Too bad people like you are absent from the Japanese government!

2. I am glad that there is a push to know what isotopes are involved
partly because that will determine the kinds of claims and damages for the victims. This is one area that the nuclear industry will attempt to cover up, especially the issue of the amount of plutonium if it is related to the MOX fuel. MOX is a money maker for them.

Other isotope measurements will reveal is still happening, they don't like that too much either. Scientists worldwide have been asking for those numbers.

Arnie Gundersen has been the information leader on this, this is his website, the videos are fairly digestible since he was a teacher!

Arnie is a Vermonter who last month, with a team, managed to thwart Entergy Corp. from continuing to profit from the leaky (Tritium for years) Vermont Yankee nuke plant.

3. There was a NYT article recently that said the nuclear industry was reconsidering MOX usage.
Thanks for the website and the info on Arnie! This accident highlighted the dangers of its use, obviously. I am truly horrified regarding the denial of cover-up of the true extent of radiation contamination. I know people who have had to travel to Japan on business and they are bringing food items with them to avoid eating local cuisine. I feel terrible when I think of the Japanese people and especially the pregnant women and children eating what must be contaminated food. With the half-life of some of these isotopes, Japan has a long road ahead to full recovery. I only wish the government was more forthcoming.

5.  It has made to the water table. It is reasonable to assume, its seeping into the ocean.
At some distance from the plant, it is seeping up though the ocean floor at some unknown rate.
