Dania Beach, the county's oldest municipality, "is in many ways leading the way into the solar street-lighting era," City Manager Ivan Pato said.
Jim Tatum, solar program manager with the Florida Energy Office in Tallahassee, agreed. "That's probably the most in Florida," he said. "I haven't heard anybody having more than that."
The project, to be completed within four months, will light a neighborhood bordered by State Road 7 on the west, Southwest 40th Street on the east, and Griffin and Stirling roads on the north and south. It's being funded through a community development block grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and financing from the city.
