Yesterday Rumsfeld said things are just great in Iraq
Edited on Wed Sep-08-04 01:27 PM by TA

But here we have the latest update on warnings to government officials traveling to Iraq. Perhaps Rumsfeld doesn't really know WTF is going on.

http://travel.state.gov/travel/iraq_warning.html

"This Travel Warning updates information on the continuing dangerous security situation in Iraq following the transfer of governing authority to the Interim Iraqi Government on June 28, 2004. The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad was established on the same day. The security threat to all American citizens in Iraq remains extremely high, with a high risk of attacks on civilians. International organizations have reduced their staff in Iraq as a result of attacks, bombings and threats to civil aviation. This supersedes the Travel Warning of June 25, 2004."

1. Rumsfeld uses a different set of metrics
War is up, money is flowing into his cronies coffers... To him it is great, especially considering his own life and that of his friends/cronies are not at risk.

Now, for the rest of us, physical safety is a more important metric of things going well. To us, Iraq is a disaster in the making.

Republicans are in denial, or they just want everyone else to be. I just saw John McCain on the local news, and he couldn't even give a straight answer to the stupid local news bimbo. She asked him something to the effect of "What about these reports that Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11?" Which is ridiculous anyway, because at this point the general populace knows he had nothing to do with it (The Bush Administration even says so themselves). But here was his response:

"I spoke to a man yesterday who said that if Saddam Hussein was still in power, he would be pursuing the development of WMD."

What kind of non-answer is that? She didn't even ask about the WMD, she asked about the link to 9/11. The Republicans are so wrapped up in all their lies, they can't even keep them straight anymore. It's as if they just have their cookie-cutter answers ready, and whenever they hear key words in a question, they blurt out their bullshit.
