71% of white-collar workers feel stressed - TW
White-collar workers are feeling overly stressed, with 23 percent admitting they have thought about committing suicide, according to the results of a survey released yesterday.

The survey was conducted by the 1111 Job Bank, a job-search Web site, and questioned 1,311 white-collar workers between Sept. 8 and Tuesday. The margin of error ranged between plus and minus 2.7 percent.

The results show that 48.6 percent of respondents lead a very stressful life. On the sources of their pressure, work tops the list (80.93 percent), followed by finances (52.24 percent) and family (28.06 percent).

1. I have gotten to the point where poverty seems
preferable to a life of servitude to a corporate master. Seriously, once you realize that you really don't need much to live, it all becomes simpler and life seems like it is worth living again.

Personally, I would starve to death before going back to another corporate 8am to 8pm Job. But that's just me.

I kind of figured it was time to go when I started wishing I would get hit by a bus on the way to work, or that the elevator would plunge me to my death 30 stories below.

It's all too much these days - something's got to give.

2. it's not just the collar
Constantly having to invent a reason for ones existence, looks very stressful.Management wears a white collar and the guilt for the agenda of the few.

3. Someone very close to me committed suicide a few months ago..
This person was a Vietnam Vet who had trouble getting work, and until recently, had always prided himself on being completely self-sufficient. He lost a steady job he had for years, and began working overtime at Home Depot. But this job didn't come close to supporting him, eventually he even lost that job.

After he lost his health insurance, he was able to partly depend on the VA to meet his medical needs. But the deep cuts in VA spending hit him extremely hard, and he found it harder to find even part time work to sustain him. We did our best to help him, but like me, it probably hurt him deeply to accept help from those..whom as kids looked up to him as a role model. I wish there was something I could do to stop what happened to this friend, but our actions only shape the future.

We can't do this alone, during times like this we need each other! :grouphug:
