I'm Surprised that the Sporting Clause
hasnt been challeneged yet. I would think some importers would try to challenge it to be able to import more firearms since the sporting clause runs foul to what the second amendment says. A weapons protection is not based soley on whether it has a sporting purpose.

2. No kidding
HK makes semi-auto MP5's!!!! Hell, they could make any of their sub-machine guns semi-auto. It's that stupid import ban for CIVILIANS that HK doesn't import them here. Oh sure its alright for the military/police to have them, select fire of course, but not us.

3. Absolutely, sport has nothing to do with it
Also all Dem politicians who speak of protecting hunters' rights are merely showing their ignorance of the 2nd Amendment.

4. The Heller decision would seem to agree with that position.

6. Good point. The problem is going to be in getting "standing" to challenge this.

7. its easy
all an importer has to do is apply for an importation license of a gun he knows is a "no no" (steyr aug, HK 94, Glock .380). When the application gets rejected, they can sue.

basically thats what heller did, he applied for a handgun registration and was denied- and boom- he now has legal standing to sue

9. They're not ignorant of the meaning of the Amendment
They just don't care. Gun grabbing politicians know full well what that the 2nd has nothing to do with sports or hunting just like they know full well that it protects an individual right. Doesn't mean shit to them compared to their personal prejudices.

As for their seeming acquiescence to the sporting/hunting community, it is disingenuous at best. Simply put, they're trying to divide gun owners and chip away at our liberties a little bit at a time. They attack so-called "assault weapons" because they view it as an easy target. "Nobody NEEDS an assault rifle," right? A surprising number of gun owners fall for that crap as well. Duck hunters and sporting clay shooters often go along with that reasoning. They don't have any appreciation for that sort of firearm and they fail to recognize that if the bad guys get their way and are able to outlaw the scary, black guns, then the handguns, they'll go after what's left. None of the previous bans have stopped the deadly misuse of firearms and none of the future bans will be any more effective.

8. Double Speak
'Sporting use' is double speak. The author of this clause is trying to sound sensible. It is really a dirty trick to ban guns. The sporting clause is going to be used to ban sporting guns that are used for sports.
