rumors: possible case involving constitutionality of AWB
i was looking at some of the gun boards and found this site

http://www.hellerfoundation.org/Heller_1.html

on the bottom it mentions a new case challenging the Districts assault weapons ban...i also remember an interview when Mr. Heller talked about registering an AR-15 and how they were going to challenge this.

I personally hope they rule that the AWB is unconstitutional but i can see it going both ways. Its going to be up to Mr. Heller and his team to prove that AR-15's are a type of gun that is commonly possessed and used for lawful purposes (though i dont see how hard that is)

4. Someone's not paying attention ...........
DC's assault weapons ban was overturned by the US Supreme Court.

The District of Columbia v. Heller decision declared that the Second Amendment provides an individual right to own firearms, not just the right for states to form armed militias.

6. I hadn't seen that ...........
Now, isn't that interesting? DC flies in the face of the USSC decision.

I don't follow gun cases, and I (obviously) never read the DC code.

Makes for fun watching from the sidelines. Mr. Heller is quite dedicated, so I guess it's "Pass the popcorn" time.

Thanks for this...... :)

7. This is great.
D.C. is only putting off the inevitable.

In general, rifles, shotguns, revolvers, and handguns may be registered in
the District of Columbia. Per DC Official Code § 7-2502.02, as amended
by the Firearms Control Amendment Act of 2008, registration of the following
firearms is prohibited in the District of Columbia:

A semiautomatic pistol that has the capacity
to accept a detachable magazine and
any one of the following:
(aa) A threaded barrel, capable of accepting
a flash suppressor, forward
handgrip, or silencer;
(bb) A second handgrip;
(cc) A shroud that is attached to, or
partially or completely encircles, the
barrel that allows the bearer to fire
the weapon without burning his or
her hand, except a slide that encloses
the barrel; or
(dd) The capacity to accept a detachable
magazine at some location outside
of the pistol grip;

Am I correct in understanding that D.C. is STILL banning semi-auto handguns???? I see they took out the max "10" round magazine capacity in favor of ANY sort of magazine.

But isn't a HANDGUN BOTH a revolver and semi-auto since you hold them in your HAND?????

8. That looks like..
they're going after Tec-9's with that description. Big deal. They should pass an ordinance about using a firearm in the commission of a crime or discharging one in the city limits. If it were against the law to fire a gun in the streets the gang bangers would stop, wouldn't they?

They're fiddling while DC burns.
