Toddler Shoots Himself In The Foot
MORGANTOWN -- State Police say a shooting in Blacksville on Saturday involving a 3-year-old boy was an accident.

They say a 3-year-old and 5-year-old were playing in their house when they pulled out a 357 Magnum Revolver from underneath the bed.

16. This is what I'm wondering..
The double action pull on my S&W is EASILY 10lb's if not more. Cocking the hammer would be even harder for a 3 year old.

18. Ah - Guns In The News version 3.0 ...
... Or is this 4.2?

The forum has had a regular series of "outraged people" posting anecdotal stories of every gun accident. Some enjoy posting tragic stories exclusively of children being injured or killed, others seem to relish the ones about seniors being shot with their own home protection gun.

The type of thread stays for a few weeks then fades away when people start posting incidents of defensive use of guns by lawful citizens.

Or somebody may have the rudeness to actually point out that the FBI statistics on "accidental death by firearm for children under 6" for the entire year was 127 (2006 last year available) and compare it to the number killed in backyard pools and 5 gallon buckets and a host of other causes of accidental death. Ot they may even point out the 800,000 to 1.2 million defensive gun uses that prevented crime. But that would be rude.

I guess you can always play the "If it saves only one child it's worth it" card? But actually it's not. There are lots of better ways to save one child or a hundred, with safety laws that don't stop people from protecting themselves. But anecdotal evidence is the only card gun grabbers can play with a straight face anymore.

But using the same irrefutable Brady logic, every time a child is killed by a handgun left by a criminally negligent parent we should push harder for a ban on assault weapons AKA scary looking rifles and shotguns because that's not what they were shot with. Yeah, that makes sense.

Gardner mother accused of stabbing, strangling daughter, 2
April 2, 2009 08:41 AM Email| Comments (40)| Text size – + By Globe Staff

A mother has been accused of stabbing her 2-year-daughter with a scissors last night in Gardner and trying to strangle the child with an electrical cord, police said.

The mother, Susan Johnson, 38, allegedly stabbed the girl in the torso, head, and neck in a laundry room of an apartment building. The child was rushed to Heywood Hospital in Gardner and taken into custody of the Department of Children and Families.

When police arrived at the apartment building, a security guard had pinned Johnson to the floor of the laundry room, keeping her away from her bleeding daughter. Police arrested Johnson on charges that include attempted murder, armed assault with intent to murder, and assault and battery on a child with injury.

Savannah-Chatham Police say 20-year-old Ashley Latoya Mims was arrested Tuesday at her apartment and was taken to the Chatham County Jail.

She said the infant, identified as Ervin Eugene Terrell, died of his injuries two days later.

Child dies after tree cut by dad falls in Mich.
Associated Press
2:47 PM CDT, March 29, 2009
HASTINGS TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A 6-year-old boy has died after a tree being cut down by his father, who was clearing an 80-acre field for farming in Barry County, landed on him, police said.

The child was about 50 feet from the base of the tree that his father was cutting with a chain saw Saturday afternoon when he was struck, Michigan State Police Trooper Phil Vannette said Sunday.

"It's just a horribly tragic accident," Vannette said.

The father had told his son and a 9-year-old girl who is a family friend to stay inside a truck several hundred feet away from where he was cutting at the field in Hastings Township, Vannette said.

A pile of brush was being burned in the field, Vannette said, and the boy got out to warn his father the fire had spread to some grass. Police said the father wasn't aware that his son had left the truck.

"The dad didn't see him," Vannette said.

The father called 911 and attempted to revive the boy, who was taken to a hospital in nearby Hastings and pronounced dead, Vannette said. Hastings is located about 30 miles southeast of Grand Rapids.

Names weren't being released, Vannette said.

An autopsy was planned. Although the death appeared to be an accident, Vannette said reports from the medical examiner's office and police were to be forwarded to the prosecutor's office for review.

Obviously parents can't be trusted to raise their own kids, only the government should be allowed to raise children.
And DON'T get me started on America's scissor and tree problem.
