Teen Says Fatal Shooting An Accident
"The friends were walking their dogs when they began playful wrestling and the gun went off, said Afton Walley, White's sister-in-law.

"Clayton said he thought Jerry was playing like he had been shot," Walley said of White's original reaction..."

".Eric White, the brother of the alleged shooter, said the weapon belonged to a family member who works in security.

Lumpkin said it was difficult dealing with the loss of his youngest child. The two teens were friends who often gathered at his home, he said. Both youths were freshmen at Provine High School..."

1. They were playfully wrestling when the gun went off
Were they playfully wrestling with the gun? Why wasn't the gun locked up?

Another lost young life over stupidity and lack of responsibility from the gun owner.

4. Oh
White told authorities "he was kind of trying to make a point with the gun and it went off," Scott said. That would be the statment that got him the murder charge.

5. What a mess.
After reading the story I have more questions than answers. The shooter's story makes no sense at all. That's probably why he caught a murder charge.

The owner of the gun should catch a charge as well. Owning a firearm means accepting responsibility for it's use and storage. With rights come responsibilities.

A mother has been accused of stabbing her 2-year-daughter with a scissors last night in Gardner and trying to strangle the child with an electrical cord, police said.

The mother, Susan Johnson, 38, allegedly stabbed the girl in the torso, head, and neck in a laundry room of an apartment building. The child was rushed to Heywood Hospital in Gardner and taken into custody of the Department of Children and Families.

When police arrived at the apartment building, a security guard had pinned Johnson to the floor of the laundry room, keeping her away from her bleeding daughter. Police arrested Johnson on charges that include attempted murder, armed assault with intent to murder, and assault and battery on a child with injury.

Child dies after tree cut by dad falls in Mich.
Associated Press
2:47 PM CDT, March 29, 2009
HASTINGS TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A 6-year-old boy has died after a tree being cut down by his father, who was clearing an 80-acre field for farming in Barry County, landed on him, police said.

The child was about 50 feet from the base of the tree that his father was cutting with a chain saw Saturday afternoon when he was struck, Michigan State Police Trooper Phil Vannette said Sunday.

"It's just a horribly tragic accident," Vannette said.

The father had told his son and a 9-year-old girl who is a family friend to stay inside a truck several hundred feet away from where he was cutting at the field in Hastings Township, Vannette said.

A pile of brush was being burned in the field, Vannette said, and the boy got out to warn his father the fire had spread to some grass. Police said the father wasn't aware that his son had left the truck.

"The dad didn't see him," Vannette said.

The father called 911 and attempted to revive the boy, who was taken to a hospital in nearby Hastings and pronounced dead, Vannette said. Hastings is located about 30 miles southeast of Grand Rapids.

Names weren't being released, Vannette said.

An autopsy was planned. Although the death appeared to be an accident, Vannette said reports from the medical examiner's office and police were to be forwarded to the prosecutor's office for review.

Obviously parents can't be trusted to raise their own kids, only the government should be allowed to raise children.
And DON'T get me started on America's scissor and tree problem.
