The presidential primary season is finally over, and it is now time for gun owners to take a careful look at just where nominee Barack Obama stands on issues related to the Second Amendment. During the primaries, Obama tried to hide behind vague statements of support for “sportsmen” or unfounded claims of general support for the right to keep and bear arms.

But his real record, based on votes taken, political associations, and long standing positions, shows that Barack Obama is a serious threat to Second Amendment liberties. Don’t listen to his campaign rhetoric! Look instead to what he has said and done during his entire political career.

I don't really follow this issue but did read Obama's position before the election because I didn't know him at all. His position seemed to try to be all things to all people (classic Obama) but it was weighted towards gun rights not gun control. It was pretty clear whose votes he was after, anyway.

The TV ad dubiously cites a vote Obama took in the Illinois State Senate in 2004, in which he voted against a measure that created a loophole for people caught in violation of local gun registration laws—a bill that had nothing to do with whether or not a person was legally justified in using a firearm to protect their home or family. Obama voted to maintain a small provision of state law that ensured that those who fail to properly register dangerous weapons face the usual legal penalty. It is a piece of state legislative minutia that is almost too obscure and inconsequential to mention, let alone distort.

But the truth is rarely a hindrance to desperate groups dealing in smears and scare tactics.
The NRA’s lies are transparent, so much so that North Carolina’s Citizen-Times gave the ads an “F” for twisting Obama’s position “almost out of whole cloth,” and many other news outlets have wholeheartedly condemned the ad campaign as well.

He sure says that. Yet he also says that the old DC gun ban was acceptable. He came from Chicago which unequivocally denies people those rights.


The dubious TV ad. Barack Obama supported among the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. Laws that make it all but impossible to purchase, own, transport, and use guns responsibly, including for the purpose of protecting their families. The bill he opposed would allow people who used guns in justified self defense and committed no other crime but having a gun would be able to avoid prosecution. With laws that make it all but impossible to get guns, his stance makes criminals out of people who want nothing more than to defend themselves and their families.

It's a campaign ad that hasn't aired in 6 months. Every group does that in campaign ads. That ad has nothing to do with the current accusation that they are putting stuff out now and that it is causing this current wave of violence. I thought the ad was pretty hokey myself.
