3 Yr old .........dead ............firearm

Xavier jumped on the bed, exposing the gun that was underneath a pillow. It is unknown how the gun went off, but Brown said Xavier was holding the gun when he was shot...........The parents of a 3-year-old boy who was shot and killed Sunday may face charges in connection with his death, said Medina County Sheriff Randy Brown.

http://www.ksat.com/news/19168687/detail.html

The boy, 3-year-old, Xavier Ortiz, suffered a gunshot wound to his head. His parents told Medina County deputies that they had told the boy and two or three other children to stay inside the home while they hid Easter eggs outside. They said while they were hiding the eggs, they heard a gunshot.

Should those be in the stupid fucking lucky bastards forums since you are far, far more likely to kill a family member than even get a shot at an intruder?

24. Using a gun for self defense rarely requires firing it
After all, cops only justifiably kill 400 people a year. Doesn't mean the cops only stop 400 crimes a year.

Edited on Sat Apr-18-09 12:03 AM by Yavapai
we installed a keyed door-lock on our bedroom where we keep our guns. When our grandchildren visit, we simply lock the door.

We also lock the door when we sleep. Should there be an intruder, he will have broken through two locked doors and subdued our rottweiler before he is in our gun-sights! My wife wants to put ceramic tile where his blood will be, for easy clean-up!

Seemed to be an easy solution...

We can't prohibit guns, so I say ban the stupid people! Starting with the GOP - and the Teabaggers are first in line. Maybe we can give them all guns and they'll shoot each other in some comically stupid and hopefully fatal manner.

Tucson Region
As pool use rises, beware 'silent killer' of kids: drowning
By Jamar Younger
ARIZONA DAILY STAR
Tucson, Arizona | Published: 04.13.2009

Drowning is often referred to by fire officials as the "silent killer."
That's because there usually is no cry for help and very little commotion, other than the sound of splashing.
Most child victims were last seen in a safe area away from the swimming pool minutes before they drowned, said Capt. Trish Tracy, a Tucson Fire Department spokeswoman.
There have been at least 15 reported drownings in the Tucson area and more than 40 near-drownings since 2004, according to data provided by local fire departments.
The most recent drowning occurred Sunday afternoon when a 2-year-old girl drowned in her family's above-ground spa in the backyard of her family's home, just south of Tucson Mountain Park.
On March 18, a 3-year-old boy died a day after he was pulled from a swimming pool at a Northwest Side apartment complex.
There was a near-drowning on the Southwest Side the next day, when a 3-year-old girl fell into her family swimming pool.
Following is a list of safety tips, statistics and phone numbers that parents can use to learn more about drowning-prevention and pool safety.

by the numbers
44
Near-drownings reported by Tucson area fire departments since 2004.
15
Drowning deaths reported by local fire departments since 2004.
8

3
Adult victims, ages 56, 79, and 80.
3
Girls under the age of 5 who drowned.
2
Incidents that did not involve a swimming pool or bathtub. One boy drowned in an ice chest, and another was found in a bucket.
1
Incident in which a child drowned in a bathtub.

Strange how we don't hear from the handwringers here about these incidents followed by demands of regulation and/or "pool bans" (who the fuck needs a pool anyways?).

22. This is horrible. For under $100.00 you can get a nightstand vault
to put a handgun in. They are not designed to stop theft. They are designed to be a safe secure place to keep your handgun out of kids hands yet be almost immediately accessible. Many are unlocked by a combination touch pad on the top with a spring loaded door.

My wife came into my life with an 8 year old girl. I never really saw a need for me to have one until then. While I'm not in favor of making such a thing mandatory by Federal edict, I think they are imperative if you have children in your house.

45. Please consider giving gun safe/lock boxes as baby shower gifts.
I used to plug this idea more, but hadn't had the opportunity lately to do it. When my shooter friends started having kids, I gave them handgun safe/lock boxes. When couples start having kids, there are lots and lots of bills and its easy to procrastinate on buying a handgun safe.

Good ones start at between $100 - $200 and you can feel really good about giving to a needy family. It will last longer and be more useful than most of the plastic stuff we give new families.

Whether you own guns or not, whether you support the RKBA or not, please consider getting a decent, secure, quick access lock box/safe for gun owning family.

Here is mine and the one I give. Its a classic sturdy box with mechanical push buttons for secure, but quick access.

Here is the stock photo of the AMSEC PB48.

Here is mine with my .357. It sits on top of the piano in the living room.

If you really want to be a hero, give them one of these:

46. I've noticed a lot of children suffer at the hands of stupid parents.
Stupid parents that don't use car seats. Stupid parents that have a pool but not a pool alarm. Stupid parents who don't make their kids wear a helmet. Stupid parents who smoke with their kids in the car. And last but not least, stupid parents who leave unsecured loaded guns where kids can find them.
