15-year-old arrested in ice cream truck shooting
VALLEJO, Calif. (AP) — A 15-year-old suspected of shooting an ice cream truck driver in Vallejo has been arrested.

Police say the boy was arrested around 7 p.m. Wednesday in Oakland as he was leaving a home carrying a suitcase and bag. He is being held at Alameda County Juvenile Hall in San Leandro.

Police say the teen shot 39-year-old Amarjit Kaur in the chest after demanding money on the afternoon of Feb. 3 as her truck was parked near Springstowne Middle School.

The boy's alleged 14-year-old accomplice was taken into custody last week and police say the gun used in the shooting was recovered from his home.

10. Correction: guns are not "toys," adult or otherwise...
One of the more corrosive outlooks about guns is the promotion of guns as "toys," something gun-controllers do on occasion. This may stem from the even more frequent equating of guns as "phallus symbols" (to put it mildly). It is possible that some gun-control people use firearms as "adult" or "sex" toys; inserting them in orifices and such. It would seem to be a dangerous practice.

Reminds me of a joke.

A Tarzana woman was found guilty Thursday of dousing an exotic dancer and single mother with gasoline and setting her on fire

Rianne Theriault-Odom, 28, who had been rejected as a dancer at the club, faces mandatory life sentences for the guilty verdicts

Theriault-Odom testified that "I felt offended - I felt she was trying to punk me. I had to stand up for myself. That's the way it is on the streets."

and

wait for it

here it comes..............

"There isn't any doubt in my mind that my daughter didn't do this, knowing how she was raised," said Elizabeth Odom of Van Nuys.

"I think she was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. She's a sweet girl. Never in my mind would I think that she would be somebody who could do anything like this."

5. These events are occurring more frequently
I don't know how this will stop.

If you read the comments there are a lot of racist comments as if shooting crimes only happen with minority criminals.

They forget Peducah and Colorado and many others.....

This is not just a minority problem this is an American problem.

How do we fix this?

6. What makes you think this is occurring more frequently?

And what are 'these events'? Shooting ice cream truck drivers?

Crime is down across the board..

http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/2009prelimsem/index.html

Preliminary figures indicate that, as a whole, law enforcement agencies throughout the Nation reported a decrease of 4.4 percent in the number of violent crimes brought to their attention for the first six months of 2009 when compared with figures reported for the same time in 2008. The violent crime category includes murder, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. The number of property crimes in the United States from January to June of 2009 decreased 6.1 percent when compared with data from the same time period in 2008. Property crimes include burglary, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft.

As is crime by youths-

(We should have this data for 2009 by April, but it's been trending down for quite a few years.)

7. I think that if you examine the evidence, some of which is cited in post 6,
you will see that these events are happening less frequency.

Unfortunately, the media has a vested interest in misleading us on any number of subjects.

Drama sells.

11. The "racist" comments you speak of were recently promoted by the Bradys...
when they decried the extremely high rate of "gun-deaths" in black communities. Please see that post (earlier this week).

While the numbers of African American gun-deaths as a percentage of that population is much higher than other defined and surveyed ethnic groups, it is not racist to report the data. What IS disturbing is this gun-control group using the data to promote greater gun-control -- to stop or reduce, presumably, the death rate in black communities. Place yourself in the shoes of blacks in this country and see how the Brady Center's gun control proposals (viz-a-viz their data) rings in your ears. It sounds at least patronizing, and at worst, it repeats the original -- and continuing -- justification of gun laws: keeping guns out of the hands of blacks.

Gun-control IS JIM CROW incarnate.
