IN: Guns bills advancing to Senate floor.
http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Read.aspx?ID=5383

On Tuesday, February 9, the State Senate Committee on Corrections, Criminal and Civil Matters passed House Bill 1065 and House Bill 1068. Both bills now head to the Senate floor for second reading as early as Monday, February 15!

HB1065, authored by State Representative Bob Bischoff (D-68) and sponsored by State Senator Johnny Nugent (R-43) and State Senator Brent Steele (R-44), would prevent state or local government authorities from confiscating lawfully owned firearms during declared states of emergency, such as occurred in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. Moreover, this bill would also prohibit employers from firing employees who safely and lawfully store their firearms in their privately-owned locked vehicles while on an employer’s property.

HB1068, sponsored by State Representative Peggy Welch (D-60) and sponsored by State Senator Greg Walker (R-41), would limit access to the Indiana Right-to-Carry permit list in order to protect the privacy of law-abiding citizens. If passed, this legislation would make Right-to-Carry permit information confidential and would prohibit the publication of that information.

Big businesses are trying to water-down HB 1065 by creating large loopholes allowing businesses to exempt themselves from the Parking Lot legislation.

Notice that both bills each have both D and R sponsors.

2. While these are good bills -
- I'm not at all confident that even if passed they will prevent government from doing exactly what it wishes to do during an actual emergency or some fabricated or exaggerated "emergency." And I cite the internment of Japanese citizens during WW-II to support my cynicism.

As regards the Katrina gun confiscation, the government had no legal right to do that to peacerul, law-abiding citizens, but it was done anyway. And I understand that a lot of it was done by Blackwater mercenaries.

4. yeah.
But if you were to stop them forcfully from taking your firearms and when you are on trial for whatever injury or death you cause this bill will help you because the individuals who did try to take your guns were the criminals and you were just defending yourself.
