"A US man has killed himself after shooting dead five people, including his wife and stepdaughter, in an argument about his breakfast."

1. There's more to it than that, of course
According to the AP story in both the San Jose Mercury News and the Miami Herald:
Landlord Ray Rastegar said Neace received monthly disability checks from the Social Security Administration, though he didn't know what his disability was. Rastegar said he had begun the process of evicting Neace, who had lived in the trailer park for about seven years, because he had become increasingly hostile toward neighbors in recent months.

"He was unpredictable," Rastegar said. "Little things would set him off."

Neighbor Steve Smith saw the rampage from the window of his mobile home. When he walked outside, Smith said Neace took a shot at him but missed.
<...>
"He's been trouble ever since he's been here," Smith said. "He's always been trouble."

The eggs might have brought him to the boiling-over point, but evidently the guy had on the boil for some time. Still, I'll give the AP credit for not resorting to the usual "nobody could have seen this coming" bullshit.

2. Breakfast was not the issue, MichaelHarris
I think you and the writers at the BBC actually know that.

5. When seconds count .. the cops were only- AN HOUR AWAY-
And another gem - "I have to admit, a little grin came across my face when I saw his brains go flying," Smith said. "He's been trouble ever since he's been here. He's always been trouble." Obviously someone who will need years and years of grief counseling , and quite possibly a disability benefit .

Speaking of grief counseling , I see Sarah Weaver is all over the news this weekend wishing we could all just get along . Well Yeaaahhh , just cut us ALL a check for 3.5 mil and we're good .

9. The gun was not legally owned. He had a criminal record.
Like most murderers, he was a convicted criminal. In his case he had sodomized a child.

10. But... But... But...
If we had a national gun registry, and taxed and required people to show ID for ammunition and kept a record of it then this crime would have never happened... Or some other bullshit excuse.

Gotta admit it sounded cool at first... "Normal quiet guy, just suddenly snaps over some bad Corn Flakes and shoots his wife..." Not so cool when you say "Convicted child molestor with a history of mental illness shot his wife..."

so much :sarcasm:
