Police say shooter was defending homeKentucky State Police at Elizabethtown’s Post 4 say 18-year-old Kevin Scott Puckett was crawling through a window at the home of Loretta Hawkins when Hawkins fired a handgun at Puckett at about 7 p.m. Tuesday.
According to Trooper Bruce Reeves, spokesman for KSP Post 4, Puckett was involved in an ongoing dispute with Hawkins’ adult son, who was inside the home when the attempted break-in and subsequent shooting occurred. Reeves said Puckett was “apparently beating on cars and the trailer and making threats” outside the home, before he broke a kitchen window and tried to enter the home. From the scene, Puckett was taken to University Hospital in Louisville where he died early Wednesday.
KSP Post 4 detective Jason Propes is investigating the shooting and home invasion, but Reeves said he doesn’t expect any charges to be filed against Hawkins. “It looks pretty cut and dried as far as it being self defense,” Reeves said.
I guess it’s safe to say that photo of Puckett during healthier days wasn’t taken at the DMV, but he has definitely turned his life around now. He is on the straight and narrow, and will never do no more bad stuff. Being a stupid ass apparently can be fatal in Kentucky.
