Banjos fail to prevent gun theft
http://www.thebluegrassblog.com/banjos-fail-to-prevent-gun-theft/

On November 23, thieves broke into my dad’s house. They carted away almost every gun in the house — but DIDN’T TAKE ANY OF THE INSTRUMENTS! In fact, they even moved several instrument cases out of the way so they could access the gun racks on the wall. (I’m sure this is a banjo joke just waiting to happen!)”

I'm sure there's a lesson in there but I'm not sure what it is.

7. Takes too long to unwind them, I guess.
On the other hand, if the thieves play banjo as badly as I do, the liquor store might give you a bunch of money to go away and leave them alone.

10. You could really do a number on someone's head with a metal-body Regal Resonator
A friend of mine just bought one. It's incredibly beautiful both visually and tonically.

8. They went for the easy pickin's?
no black market "play" for bluegrass banjos?
Worried about Deliverance?

Seriously though, glad to hear they didn't get the banjos which are probably more important to a musician than his guns, which insurance will replace if you have any.

We got broken into some years ago, such a violation. They took $8,000 worth of stuff at our old house--all the silver, cameras, clothes out of closets, electronics, you name it. Worst thing though was they stole a video camera and case with all the videos of my children--the day my daughter was having heart surgery. I was heartbroken, offered a reward for those videos, the only things that really mattered, but never got them back.

These criminals are pond scum. I hope for a Karmic payback for them someday.

14. My parents house was broken into.
They had left for a doctor's appointment. The neighbor saw the two burglars break in and called the police. The thieves were still inside when they police arrived at the neighbor's house. All the commotion alerted the burglars who made good their escape while the neighbor who called the law was jumping up and down trying to get the cops to go after them.

No one was ever caught.

11. gun safes. I have two bolted together and can't fit through a window or out of doors
and they weigh so much I can't even slide them on the wood floor. I put a backup of all our digital pictures and media in the safe. Anything that we cannot part with and they're also safe in a fire.

Before you buy your first gun buy a safe (or get them at the same time).

13. Bolt it down.
Great advice. I had a small gun safe that wasn't bolted down and the burglars just took it to crack open later. I never thought to bolt it down and lost four handguns, two crappy guns(RG .22 short revolver & Raven p-25)and two decent guns(S&W .357 magnum and a Bersa Thunder .380). They pried open the back door and kicked in the door to my home office. They weren't geniuses either. They left a surplus fifty caliber can full of ammo for the handguns, they also stole a bottle of nyquil(the Detective said they wanted it to get high)but passed up a bottle of Xanax that was right next to it. They also stole food. Frozen breakfast biscuits, candy bars and canned pasta. Weird huh?
