A Lehigh Township man was killed by a gunshot Friday morning at the Ranger Lake Rod and Gun Club in North Whitehall Township, the Lehigh County coroner said.

Arthur A. Lichtenwalner, 61, was shot at 10:39 a.m. and was pronounced dead at 11:40 a.m. at the gun club on Quarry Street near Route 329, Coroner Scott Grim said Friday night.

Grim said he would make a finding next week on the manner of Lichtenwalner's death after further investigation by his office and by state police at Bethlehem.

<snip>

Grim did not describe Lichtenwalner's wound, but earlier emergency radio broadcasts had reported Lichtenwalner had shot himself, possibly by accident, in the abdomen.

The more people open carry in public - the more of this we will see.

1. Your conclusion is completely unsupported by the events.

The man was at a gun club, which is a place where people actually handle and shoot their guns. Open carriers do not handle their weapons in public. In most jurisdictions, that is a crime called "brandishing."

2. Sounds like a possible accident at a gun range ...
which would make it a fairly rare incident.

This has absolutely nothing to do with carrying a firearm in public, openly or concealed. The fact that you posted it shows just how little you understand about shooting in general.

Your OP is similar to posting an article that talks about a race car driver being killed during a race and saying that this is why we need to enforce speed limits on city streets.
