Talking life, death and guns with Nebraska’s most-radical state senator (GOP/NRA uber-moran)
http://nebraska.statepaper.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2011/05/09/4dc49deab0989

After all, the National Rifle Association-endorsed Christensen, 48, has introduced some of the most radical gun-rights bills in the country, including a measure that would have allowed teachers to carry guns in school.

<snip>

Christensen talks a lot about moral decay - his justification for the bill to allow security guards, administrators and teachers to carry concealed handgunw on school property, provided they also have a state-issued permit.

“The moral change in America's been, well, you can't spank kids in school. You can't touch a kid in school. So they don't respect,” he says, ''cause you've had the moral decay that comes from government and society, we now have more problems.”

<snip>

“I believe are to be in control of the classroom at all times,” Christensen says. “If you're the professor or the teacher and I show up with a gun are you now in control? No. You're not. That gun is in control. The person with the gun now has demanded respect.

<snip>

:wow:

5. If you assume teachers will immediately start shooting students if given the opportunity
then I assume you are a strong proponent of homeschooling? Afterall, why would you hand your kid over to someone for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week who you assume wants to kill the little brat?

7. Really?? So the US Military "is a really fucked up GOP/NRA moran idea"?
Because when I went to High School in the 1970s, we had Army JROTC, sponsored and paid for by the US Army. AND we had a 50ft .22 INDOOR rifle range, RIGHT THERE IN THE SCHOOL. Not in some out of the way place, right there on the second floor next to the JROTC classroom. You could sit in JROTC class and little to them practicing the other side of the concrete wall.

Guess what, NO one was EVER injured. Ever. And when girls were allowed to join in my Sophomore year, the girls were better shots than the boys, including me.

And we got to drill with real M-14s that only had the firing pin removed. And the barrels weren't plugged. And I got to shoot said M-14s when I went to JROTC summer camp.

2. He wrote this drivel on his legislature web page:
Edited on Tue May-10-11 09:39 AM by CurtEastPoint
"While I introduced a bill that some say goes to far, I want to be perfectly clear: murder of *anyone* is wrong. Period. Violence is not justified. According to my faith, my God will be the one to judge, that is not my duty here on earth. No person should believe that they can take that responsibility, that is for God alone.

Anyone who performs those horrific acts would be going straight to hell.

Hi Nobody"
