"ANNAPOLIS, Md. — A Maryland lawmaker who called marriage a "God-given institution" and demanded to know in a House hearing if same-sex marriage advocates believed in God, physically abused her daughter in 1997 and told her second husband that she needed to be "restrained" from shooting the teenage girl, according to court papers.
Del. Carmen Amedori (R-Carroll County) shouted at gay rights advocates earlier this month during a committee hearing regarding two bills aimed at prohibiting gay marriage. She repeatedly asked gays testifying at the hearing to affirm their belief in God, according to witnesses.
In a 1998 "Petition for Protection" filed by Amedori’s first husband, Robert DePaola asked the court to protect their then 17-year-old daughter Nicole from future abuse. DePaola alleges that on Dec. 29, 1997, "Carmen was abusive to Nicole at the Cranberry Mall movies by slapping and pushing Nicole inside the theater to an awaiting car."
DePaola also asserted in the petition that "Nicole was hit many times by Carmen with a belt inside their home" and "Carmen also told Nicole that she had to be restrained by her husband ‘from taking a gun into the movie theater and shooting her.’" "

I was tempted to post a parallel one about disgraced former bishop Thomas O'Brien of Arizona, regarding the lenient sentence he got for a hit-and-run accident that left a person dead, and call it "Anti-gun, anti-gay, pro-pedophile bishop gets away with murder", but that might not have gone over very well.
