Swords: They're not just for killing anymore

Fort Knox Chapter AUSA President Diane Logsdon and Gov. Ernie Fletcher, right, laugh as Fort Knox commander Maj. Gen. Terry Tucker licks his fingers after the trio used swords to cut a cake commemorating the Army's 229th birthday Monday. Fletcher was the keynote speaker at the AUSA's brunch at the Leaders Club on post.

What will they think of next?

1. not too many use them for warfare anymore
as far as I know. I do tai-chi sword, but we use wooden ones. I think most see them as symbolic these days. But there is something cool about holding them. Brings out the woman warrior in me.

sorry I know this has little to do with your post. I was just surprised to see the word sword. :)

4. Swords are often used at military weddings
To cut the cake. Also, the couple may pass under crossed swords or rifles on the way to the reception.

6. Yup. We see it all the time here
But then, we're right out the main gate at Ft. Knox. I just liked the pic on the front page of the local paper.

9. Shhh!
I assembled it from surplus parts. A pal with a lathe machined me a new sear. Its boning rate is 200 tph (turkeys per hour).
