The following assault weapons/techniques are used in the Olympics
1) javelin
2) hammer throw
3) archery
4) fencing

Heaven knows there's no dodge ball and water polo will soon be banned.

1. Have you seen California's list of pistols it banned as "assault weapons"?
Then promptly UN-banned as emergency legislation to stop the chilling effect the previous law, known as Senate Bill 23, had on Olympic type target shooting?

See http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displaycode?section=pen&group=12001-13000&file=12125-12133 and scroll down to section 12132, or search for "anschutz".

BTW - Welcome to DU.

2. Welcome to DU
You forgot to mention Biathlon and the various target shooting events. I'm certain that the long range rifle events would fit the definition of sniper training for some on this board.

And let's not forget those nasty handgun and airgun comps.

4. You should be fine unless you mention
Jarts or lawn darts. I got a real problem with Jarts - you could put an eye out.

The Jart ban will fall, weapon of choice of gang members or not.

7. Admit it
there is no sporting use for a Jart. Why do you need all that aerodynamic styling and pointy points? Fetishism, thats all it is.

The ban will never fall! I'll not have you fetish fondlers hold my family hostage only that you jart jockeys might sit about and choke your chubbies drooling over so called Outdoor Skill Games for Adults. Its just sick.

9. I admit I love Jart porn
but I don't think we should be banning aerodynamic spears just because some people don't think they have a sporting purpose.

11. I am thinking of the children.
I hope that someday, future generations of children will live in freedom and be able to play a good game of Jarts in peace and liberty.

you must be on Hasbro's payroll. Your lunatic asswipe lawn missle gang is always trying to minimize the dangers of Jarts and now you are trying to belittle my 1A rights.

Edited on Wed Jun-16-04 09:48 PM by D__S
Long range (effective to 200 yards).

The bigger the Jart, the bigger the penis.

13. If You Can Find a Story...
...about someone trying to rob a bank or murder someone with a javelin, hammer (non-carpentry), bow and arrow, or a fencing foil, let us know. Otherwise, I'll just view this as what it is - another pro-gunner's feeble attempt to cloud the issue.

21. I heard that the hammer throw was being removed
because of the profuse profanity that immediadely precedes (and accompanies) the throwing of said hammer is banned during prime time. Officials stated that such language is best left on the construction site where it belongs.
