Is a horrible idea. It's an insult that isn't deserved. I'm proud to be a liberal. I served 8 years in the military, and I grew up in Oklahoma, so it's not as though I'm a stranger to guns. I don't care for them, and I think our current laws are WAAAAY too weak, but that's all beside the point.

There are a shitload of gun owners here. You have a point to make, but you're trying to make it by starting an argument. Not an effective means of stimulating productive dialog. I'd like to see ya stick around for a very long time here, but ya gotta understand that folks around here DO NOT think being called a "liberal" or a "leftie" is a bad thing.

... I think there are a few too many generalizations being thrown around about gun owners and non-gun owners.

I own 2 Russian SKS's and a Yugoslavian SKS. My motivation for owning guns comes from a collector's stand point. I collect soviet firearms (I also own a couple Mosin Nagants, a tokarev, makarov, etc.) I certainly don't side with the hard core anti-gun crowd (I know this isn't all those who argue against various aspects of gun ownership/laws) who automatically assume I have fantasies about killing people by virtue of having fired a gun. Nor do I really side with those who harp on the the self defense aspect of owning a weapon. Although I do have a concealed carry permit I don't sit around thinking up scary scenarios where I might need to point the weapon at someone. I have it so that I can buy a handgun without having to wait a week while the same background check is run again and agian. If someone sneaks in to my home in the middle of the night while I'm sleeping, I don't pretend that there will even be a chance of me rushing to the locked gun cabinet, loading one and fending off the intruder.

I simply have an interest and enjoy collecting.

BTW - I guess I'm also an SKS owner for Kerry.

... I sometimes scratch my head over these discussions. There's more mudslinging over this issue than just about any others I've seen discussed here.

I suppose that's part of being a liberal. We aren't all lock step, talking point worshipping drones like the repukes and freepers. Still, I find myself offended by both sides of this debate on a regular basis.

I think that some of the negative reaction you received was based on your less than amiable post (of course others that replied are definately going to give you a fight regardless of your tact.. but we learn to deal with eachother... =)

Yes, it is legit. Liberals need to get over their phobia about guns and the propaganda surrounding them. The constitution gives us all the right to have them regardless of political persuasion as long as the law is always obeyed.
