UZI Triangle LOL
This one is rich. Evidently the VPC (the ever 'dis'ingenuous gun control arm of the constitutional control committe) has discovered where guns come from. Kudos!

"Washington, DC—The three contiguous states of Arizona, Nevada, and Utah have the largest number of "post-ban" copycat assault weapon manufacturers of any region of the United States, the Violence Policy Center revealed today.

The region contains 10 assault weapon manufacturers (see chart below) with a combined product line that includes post-ban AR-15s, AK-47s, UZIs, and others. The product lines of these 10 companies—located in a region the VPC has labeled the "UZI Triangle"—are yet another example of how the gun industry has successfully evaded the current federal ban by making insignificant, mostly cosmetic, changes in the design of banned assault weapons and then marketing them as "post-ban" guns. The changes can be as slight as simply removing a flash suppressor from the end of the barrel of an assault rifle and replacing it with a muzzle brake (two components that look almost identical, but perform different functions) or adding a fixed stock. The 1994 ban will expire on September 13, 2004, without action by Congress and President Bush. "

http://www.vpc.org/press/0408uzi.htm

Now if they could just explain how the "new and improved" ban they have in store for us wont turn out to be the same legislative laughingstock the current AWB is, they might actually earn some credibility.

Anyone holding there breath? :)

It's a shame to see that much talent wasted on propaganda.

3. "Cosmetic" changes
Were all the AWB called for. That is like passing a law banning red cars, then trying to sue automakers for producing marroon cars....silly silly siily.

5. What we are seeing is part of a greater, more disturbing trend.
People refuse to believe any information, except that which agrees with their viewpoint. Everything else becomes propaganda.

26. that is pretty much true of any issue and any side
I'd agee.

The Gungeon is a great microcosm. No one down here is changing their minds - anything the VPC says is propaganda to the RKBAers and the Pro-controls crowd responds similarly to NRA releases.

Both semiauto and automatic. They're amusing but I don't see much practical use for one either unless you are a security professional.

9. "has successfully evaded the current federal ban "

I love how the gun grabbers spin this one.

Apparently, complying with the law is now "evading the law"

I suppose if I drive 55 mph, that I am evading the laws against speeding?

Are law abiding citizens now "law evaders"

funny stuff, but whats to expect from the extremist?

10. But even the VPC claims...
The changes ARE functional:

(two components that look almost identical, but perform different functions)

But the VPC has scored a PR coup throught their propoganda. I wonder how firm that 78% suppport is.

Shame they can't get near that for a handgun ban.

11. Infighting really
If you think about it, what they are doing is blaming the incompetence of the fellow gun grabbers who wrote it. If any of them actually had a clue as to what they were talking about when they wrote the law, it might not have to turned out to be such a joke.

I love it when small minds bicker over who is at fault for their combined ignorance.

12. But in one paragraph...
cosmetic/functional.

The collapsible stock enables concealability, but a fixed stock doesn't hinder concealability. The really sad part is that VPC is so visible, their positions become the "face" of gun control which is thrown all over us. OTOH, the Repubs pass laws largely banning the transfer of a class of weapons into the civilian market, call it Firearms Owners Protection Act, and get accolades from RW Pro-RKBA groups.

13. That qualifies as a half-truth
The main function of a muzzle brake is to reduce felt recoil, the main function of a flash suppressor is to direct hot plasma out of the shooter's field of view, but each device provides some of the other's functionality.

Of course they can't explain how either makes a gun more suitable for criminal misuse.

14. Half truth...
then saying the function is different is a whole untruth...I don't know why, but it seems the VPC wants it every way:

functional but cosmetic
semiautomatic but machine gun
legal but illegal

18. OK.
The NRA sucks. They've supported pretty much all the federal gun control ever passed. Understandable, I guess, since without gun control they'd basically be a gun safety organization with no political power not to mention the money. For all the whining you hear about the supposed political power of the NRA and their alleged working out of the oval office since Bush became president how many calls for the repeal of federal gun laws have come from them?

23. Exactly!
We here soo much about the nra and the power they wield but they evidently are more interested in continuing the gun control legacy, not stopping it. Without it, they have no supporters, no money, and no power.

The vpc is just the opposite side of the same coin
