I'm a gun owner, I have a stored arsenal of weapons locked in a safe that not even the greatest thief in the world could penetrate much less small children. I do not rely on them for self defense even given the fact that I live in an area where the most dangerous criminal would be some drunken idiot who is accidently in the wrong house and only worth a scolding not a bullet.

Being brought up around guns it's a hobby I've had since I was very young and I raised with the idea of being aware and safe.

My children have been taught gun safety and responsibility since they were 18 months old. They know to treat all guns as loaded, and guns are not toys. It is really not that difficult to raise your kids to understand this. Besides, my shotgun that stays under my bed is difficult for even my wife to operate, much less one of the kids.
