In a Houston Chronicle article yesterday, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) admitted that her signature legislation, the so-called "assault weapons" ban, has no hope of being renewed, and is looking to next year to try for a new ban.

"Absent the president twisting arms, it's nil," said Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., of the chances to get a bill passed before midnight Monday, when the law expires."

The article then goes on to say, "While some House members are expected to try to attach the ban to another 'must-pass' bill this session, a pragmatic Feinstein said the fight is over for now. She vowed to re-introduce an assault weapons ban next year."

What are the standards by which it is 8 versus 11? Where the thread originated?

4. Well I just started counting where the other folks left off.

It's 9 or 12 now. I'm not sure if we're counting threads that started up in the GDs. I didn't start the pool or pick a number, so I don't really know the rules.
