Even puppies use guns for self defense
Pup shoots man, saves litter mates

PENSACOLA, Florida (AP) -- Nice shootin', Rex!

A man who tried to shoot seven puppies was shot himself when one of the dogs put its paw on the revolver's trigger.

Jerry Allen Bradford, 37, was charged with felony animal cruelty, the Escambia County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday. He was being treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound to his wrist.

Bradford said he decided to shoot the 3-month-old shepherd-mix dogs in the head because he couldn't find them a home, according to the sheriff's office.

On Monday, Bradford was holding two puppies -- one in his arms and another in his left hand -- when the dog in his hand wiggled and put its paw on the trigger of the .38-caliber revolver. The gun then discharged, the sheriff's report said.

4. Were those puppies NRA members?
If they were, some here would call the man who was shot a victum of gun violence, and the puppies gun-toting racist GOP members.

5. Okay...
"was charged with felony animal cruelty,"

How's shooting a dog any different from having them put down by lethal injection?

Vets shoot horses, and bulls are shot with a captive bolt gun at the slaughterhouse.

6. If the animal welfare folks in Pensacola are anything like the ones here
it's no surprise that he was charged. It seems that P.E.T.A. types are taking over the offices. I don't condone shooting unwanted domestic animals. We have shelters to take care of that.

I know that our local animal shelter director has a fair number of P.E.T.A. propaganda on the walls at the shelter. These are the same people who claim that killing chickens for food is equivalent to the Holocaust.

I honestly don't see the difference to the animal between injection or shooting. If both are done properly they're about as painless as it gets. shooting just leaves a nastier picture in our minds.

OTOH. Hooray for the pup!

8. Errrr.......well...............
Having a qualified, experienced person use lethal quantities of drugs to sedate and then kill a puppy, or a trained marksman shooting a horse, is slightly removed from having an incompetant buffoon blast away until the dog's dead dead.

IIRC, doesn't the captive bolt gun stun the animal, after which it's hoisted into the air and its throat is slit to kill it?

No, not nice (and one reason I can't be against hunting - it's less cruel), but the slaughter of an animal bred for food is slightly different from trying to casually dispose of an animal bred for company, but which you've been too irresponsible to have neutered.

IMHO of course.

7. At least it was a Shepherd-mix pup doing the shooting
If it had been a Pug we'd all be in very deep trouble.

9. looks more like gun whack job fails to handle weapon
correctly. I don't know, if a mere puppy can overpower you and take your peashooter away from you it would seem that maybe using a gun as a defensive weapon isn't all its cracked up to be.

Cheee-rist, think what that mongrel could've done had he opposable thumbs.

I bet those puppies didn't even have CCW permits, or training. If gun training were required for puppies, this incident could have been prevented. But that damn racist blood money gun lobby wouldn't have it.

11. I'll bet the puppy had priors
has anyone checked? If we had mandatory background checks we might have averted this tragedy.
