1. Some of my freedoms have been restored.
I only wish I didn't have to thank corrupt scumbag Republicans for the favor.

6. You left something out
.. because this legislation was signed into law 10 years ago, in 1994...

Append "by a Democratically controlled Congress."

14. Let us not forget what was supposed to happen during that 10 years
People were supposed to gauge the effectiveness of the AWB as a crime-fighting tool.

Either the ban failed, or someone didn't do their homework. Either way, things worked out OK.

4. Great poll choices, JibJab!
The sun IS shining brightly today, and other than a few age-related discomforts and a slight hangover I feel fine.

5. Three pro-ban choices, one anti-ban choice.
Nice impartial poll you've got going there.

9. I think they have medication for that.
I'm thinking of supporting a ban on car spoilers, because that makes cars look faster and more dangerous.

12. Medication for thinking the AWB accomplished anything.
Personally though, I think it can be treated with therapy alone.

16. Owning a gun doesn't equate to blood lust.
It is unfortunate that you've been convinced otherwise.

17. Well to be honest I'm rather meh about the whole thing.
On the one hand its nice to see a crappy law go away. On the other hand there are a lot of other even crappier laws still on the books. On top of that, my state copied the federal AWB anyway, so even assuming I wanted to buy one, which I don't particularly care to do, I still couldn't.

I think I'm enjoying all of the stuff coming out of the gun grabbing camp about machine guns and "renewing the ban before it sunsets," even though its been gone for 19 hours at this point, even more than I'm enjoying the actual sunset of the ban. The last 48 hours have been like having 9 months of arguing about the ban compressed into a few short hours of frenzied posts on the subject.

18. Banning still seems an intrinsically bad deterrent to me.
Banning guns, drugs, alcohol, etc. creates self-same objects of desire. I don't like that this also says that we can only trust police, military troops, and government officials in general -- not each other. It's divisive in our country and derisive to our people.

I know I disagree with many many many well-meaning, and very loud, individuals in the Democratic party. The reason I don't jump ship is that Republicans with their take-the-wealth basis worsens the problems faster than gun-banning manages to slow the problems.

I also know there are many responsible sounding gun owners here on DU and that comforts me. It would not bother me if they had these once banned guns in their possession.

A formidable democracy requires and formidable populous.
