Fuck guns
They kill people.

Period.

I've managed to live over a half a century without using a gun on another person or to defend myself or my family. I've lived a rougher life than most and still live.

People do kill people. And guns are their tool of choice.

Fuck guns.

It gave me great impetus to protest the war.

I never once dissed the soldiers, they were the ones I was trying to help.

"The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; that... it is their right and duty to be at all times armed." --Thomas Jefferson to John Cartwright, 1824.

" governor constitutionally the commander of the militia of the State, that is to say, of every man in it able to bear arms." --Thomas Jefferson to A. L. C. Destutt de Tracy, 1811.

"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun, therefore, be the constant companion of your walks." --Thomas Jefferson to Peter Carr, 1785. ME 5:85, Papers 8:407

there are countless more just like these.

Firearms manuals do not say:

Keep out of reach of children.
Only aim at what you intend to shoot.
Always point in a safe direction.
You must kill as many people as possible as long as you own this gun.
Always unload firearm while cleaning...

***Or at least my manuals don't say that!

Like firearms, they are rarely used, but when they are, they can save a life.

And like firearms, all can be misused as well.

36. I didn't give THEM the chance.
The first time, they broke a pane of glass in the door, then ran when I yelled at them. I shouted at them from my bedroom when they were trying to break in.

The second time, I think they just thought better of it when they saw the front porch light come on.

Both cases, I called the police, told them I had a gun, and that they should ID themselves clearly when trying to contact me at home.

Their lives would be forfeit had they crossed the threshhold into my home. I have too much love for my family to let them try to hurt us.

68. You don't understand, I'm afraid
You don't wait for the harm! You break into my home and present a deadly threat to my family you *will* face deadly force before you can cause harm. Trust me, I won't hesitate a second. And, yes, I still sleep well at night.

The only regret is that the carpet is ruined. But replacement is cheap and two coats of Kilz gets rid of the stench.

Face facts, the world is a tough place where a few folks think they can visit violence with impunity. If you equivocate when you or your family is threatened, well, you're damned near as immoral as the perp.

You know, there was a day when Democrats weren't wimps... Unfortunately most folks think we can't protect them from threats.

29. Theoretically, I believe you are probably correct
...however, in a household with children, a gun must be locked up to protect them. How quickly would you be able to get the key, unlock the gun, load it (if unloaded) and prepare for this? That is why I think this is a flawed argument. You would have to have a lot of notice that someone was breaking in and that isn't going to be the case.

i don't have children. if i did, i'd carry a gun on my person while in the home. it would then be safe from the children, but within arms reach.

when sleeping, i'd store it in a quick-open bedside gunsafe. or just lock my bedroom door.

ok, here's a scenario. you're at a redlight, boxed in with cars all around. a 6'2" 250lb guy walks up with a tire iron and breaks out your window. he rears back to hit you with it. your options are:

1) call the cops with the cellphone you drew from your pocket as you saw the guy walking up.

2) ventilate the mofo with the handgun you drew from your pocket as you saw the guy walking up.

which option would you choose?

I used a .22 and the bullet just bounced off his thick skull but he ran off yelping. Still after having him kill my 17 year old cat and my friends 13 year old mutt if I see him on my land again I'm using a bigger caliber and doing him in.

I have a friend and fellow goatkeeper who lives in Montana and she has an awful time with mountain lions getting in her barn and eating her goats. Ate one of her permanent champions and best does. She locks the barn tight but they still get in. She never goes to the barn without a .357 and has had to shoot a couple.

BTW - All of my firearms are secured in a big heavy safe. I keep them locked up at all times except when I am using, inspecting, or cleaning them. If you have a problem with that, all I have to say to you is "Tango Sierra".

77. yea, its funny--my guns have never killed anyone, either.
some people want to rob us of our constitutional rights based on what other people have done with their belongings. That is like telling me to give up my car because some drunk I don't even know killed somebody while driving. Or its like telling me to melt down all my silverware because some PCP crazed idiot took a steak knife and slashed someone.

The strange reasoning people use as a means to disarm peaceful citizens never ceases. I don't understand how some people arrive at the notion that all guns are all bad. I grew up with guns, hunted, took target-practice, and had some very tasty meals of pheasant and deer because of guns, and at no time has being pro-gun made me into a testosterone-heavy swaggering bragging flag-waving freeper.

my ak47 hasn't killed any living thing ever. Am i doing something wrong?
After all, i bought it because its so lethal and deadly..

it hasnt even killed any children or any cops either, and i was told by the gun dealer that it was guaranteed to be twice as lethal to those demographics!

19. That's a fine personal choice for some people
Many Americans have managed to live over a half a century without using a gun on another person or to defend themselves or their family and they usually own more than one firearm. The fact we still have the right to own firearms is a good sign for America and it helps keep those that would harm others weaker than themselves from many barbaric acts.

The people who wrote the Constitution were wise people indeed.

32. I don't much care for hand guns, either,
but I have no problem with other people owning them. I do hope they have training and have secured them properly. Also, statistically, gun owners are in far more danger from their own gun than they are from crime. For most people, a dog is a much better deterrent to crime than a gun.

37. hand guns and assault weaponry suck
Sporting shotguns and rifles are ok if properly controlled. (I'm pro-sport shooting)

Other than sport shooting there is no reason to own a lethal weapon. Defence? Oh boy...we don't have universal gun ownership in the UK. Nor do we have loads of deaths from misuse of firearms.

Flame proof suit on and zipped tight.

I didn't realize sporting shotguns and rifles weren't lethal weapons. I'll have to pick one up a bunch of those for my neices and nephews.

48. Fuck guns?

Yes, they kill people. Sometimes they're innocent and sometimes not.
The gun debate is much complicated than you imply.

I have defended myself with a weapon (didn't have to shoot it), and I'm glad I had one.

I'm not willing to give up my guns to make you feel better.

Is there a fact in it? Guns kill people? So do cars, beer, cigarettes, unprotected sex, and sloth. I know I'd rather take a bullet than die of AIDs or congential heart failure.

How about saying something constructive? How about doing something constructive? I mean, at 50, surely by now you've realized that guns are going nowhere. I know I am not turning mine in, I don't care what you say to try to convince me.

Fuck people who try to take people's rights, be they abortion rights, gun rights, voting rights, or religious rights.

Freedom kills dictatorships and keeps the government out of personal lives.

Period.

I've managed to be alive over a quarter of a century without needing freedom to exist for me or my family. I've lived a worse life than most.

Freedom is slavery.

And I've never killed anybody. Nor have I ever pointed a gun at a human being.

However, I have killed a lot of paper targets, cans, an occasional fruit and/or vegatable, and even shot some pheasant and grouse when my father took us hunting.

As per your final thought - I'm not sure I'd like to fuck a gun. Ouch.

95. Guns
Well, I've lived over three score so I'm a bit older than you, never made the bucket (went to prison) but had a few rough edges in my life. Bought my first gun when I was 9 years old, served and was Honorably discharged from the Army and in the course of making a living by lawful pursuits I found it necessary on several occasions over the years to employ the use of a firearm. The circumstances and outcomes are my business and not public domaine. A gun was my tool of choice and without one I would not be posting this message so fuck you and not the gun.

They polute our earth, they cause hundreds of thousands of deaths each year, they can be used for suicide, they can be used by terrorists, they can kill many people in seconds simply by driving into a crowd, and they object of choice for drug dealers to transport their goods. Do it for the children...
