Syrian Envoy Vows Fight if Israel Keeps Attacking

MADRID (Reuters) - Syria's ambassador to Spain said Wednesday that Damascus would respond militarily if Israel were to go on carrying out attacks in Syrian territory.

Asked about recent statements that Syria had the right to defend itself, Ambassador Mohsen Bilal told Reuters: "If Israel attacks Syria one, two and three times, of course the people of Syria and the government of Syria and the army will react to defend ourselves."

Asked if that meant responding militarily, he said: "By all means. If Israel continues to attack us and continues its aggression of course we shall react to the attacks in spite of the fact that we are fighting for peace and wish to reopen the (1991) Madrid (peace) conference."

Let's hope Israel will not be foolish to provoke Syria. We all know the might of the IDF...but what's it worth if you're in a full scale war and your own citizens aren't safe.

5. That's what I heard discussed on tonight's news

which prompted me to post this particular article. They were wondering if this would escalate into a full-scale war in this region. It's already a tinderbox and wouldn't take much. Meanwhile, Bush* is still fiddling away, worrying about his re-election.
