Hamas leader: We reject a permanent truce with Israel
The deputy head of Hamas's political bureau on Wednesday said his group is studying peace initiatives to end the violence in Gaza Strip but rejects permanent truce with Israel.

Exiled Hamas leader Moussa Abou Marzouk said there will be no talks about a permanent cease-fire and that as long as there is an Israeli occupation, there will be resistance.

1. And so it goes.
Israel accepts a peacefire, Hamas wants eternal war.

2. Well. Now we know what the truce didnt contain.
Hamas wants Israel out and open borders. Any truce without those two things isnt going to happen.

6. Open borders is suicide for Israel
They will never open themselves up to nonstop passage of guns, rockets and bomb making materials.

Try again, Hamas.

Even those working on the ceasefire agreement know that there is no way Israel is leaving Gaza while rockets are still falling or smuggling still exists.

7. Give me a friggin break.
Open borders is suicide? Yeah, because if the past week was any indication, the mighty Hamas army will just traipse right in and annihilate all of Israel, right?

I'm sure the rocks they will throw will have a catastrophic impact. :sarcasm:

9. Hamas rockets, smuggled in from Iran
can murder hundreds of people at one time.

They have twice hit empty schools in the past week.

I am sure you are itching for one of those rockets to hit right during the school day, and kill hundreds of children.

Pesky firecrackers and all.

13. smuggled in from Iran?
Got proof of that, or are you just spewing the official Israeli propaganda?

15. Can you cite any instance where hundreds have been killed by one?
And I am quite certain you want to see Palestinians wiped off the face of the earth. I'm sure you're just itching to bathe in their blood.

when people disagree with your view of the world?

18. It was a direct parallel to your statement.
Nice try though. You said I was the one who wanted to see hundreds of children die. If you care to apologize, go ahead and do so. Until then, my statement stands.

21. Is this or is this not your direct quote:
"I am sure you are itching for one of those rockets to hit right during the school day, and kill hundreds of children."

So did you or did you not directly insult me by saying I would be such a horrible person that I'd like to see children die?

8. Then Israels only choice is to occupy the strip. Again.
And you know what? At this point, I dont really care. I'd just like to see those poor people get some food and medicine. Whats being done to them is inconceivable.

10. Actually, the Gazans lived much better lives under Israeli occupation
than under Hamas occupation.

But Israel doesn't want to occupy Gaza again.

19. Some Palestnians would disagree with you

One main reason that life is worse now, say many villagers, is the lack of attention paid to Mawassi by both the previous Fatah and current Hamas governments since the Israeli withdrawal.

The Israelis "used to take responsibility for us as occupiers," Riyad Laham says. "Neither knocked on the doors to ask what we need. People are fed up.... We have become beggars.

"At 9 a.m. in every other country, everyone is at his desk doing his work," Laham says. "Here, people are by the side of the road with their arms crossed together."

And this was before Hamas provoked a war.

23. The in-depth article cites two people.
B'Tselem and Amnesty International do in-depth studies of the situation, and have for decades. Obviously, you've taken your pick.

4. After so many years of conflict, positions harden and make peace
less possible. If only the US were a leader and honest broker in the world but alas, no longer. The rest of the world seems disinterested or wants to take sides as well.

11. Moussa Abou Marzouk
the same guy who is on an international most wanted list because he was convicted on terrorism charges in the US in the '90's as part of the Holy Land Foundation terrorism plot the one that ended in a mistrial and then a conviction was reached in Texas days after the election? That guy?
Odd that he of all people would surface right now to make a public announcement, but what ever works, sounds like someone just shooting his mouth off to me.

17. He's a fucking jackass, just like most of Hamas' leaders.
He's doing what's best for the organization, but what's best for the people he claims to represent. Kind of like the Israeli party leaders.

26. Moussa Abou Marzouk has consistently been making public announcements throughout the conflict
I'm not sure what you are talking about here.

He has regularly made comments, given interviews, and published op-ed pieces throughout 2007, 2008, and now the beginning of 2009.

He is the Deputy Chairman of the Hamas Political Bureau.
