Sharon vows to stay despite corruption allegations
GAVIN RABINOWITZ, Associated Press Writer Thursday, January 22, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(01-22) 11:33 PST JERUSALEM (AP) --

A defiant Ariel Sharon brushed off calls to resign Thursday, vowing to complete his term despite a burgeoning bribery scandal. But even a top official from his own party said Sharon's days as prime minister may be numbered.

Speaking publicly for the first time since a real estate developer was indicted Wednesday on charges of bribing Sharon with $690,000, Sharon told a youth gathering from the ruling Likud Party that he intended to stay.

"I arrived here as prime minister and as chairman of the Likud, a position I plan to fill for many more years, until 2007 at least," Sharon told the cheering youths, referring to the date of the next scheduled election.

1. Israel is a nation of that follows the "Rule of Law."
All that is out now is an "allegation" against Mr Sharon. Only those who hate him or are against his policies are calling for him to resign. I'm glad he doesn't buckle before his detractors. He's alot more polite than I would be to those who are attacking him.

Yep, I am against his policies (RW) since I am liberal. Now I didn't know that being against his policies is a problem here. Oh my...

Edited on Thu Jan-22-04 05:50 PM by JasonDeter
simply on the basis of allegations? Democracy's based on the Rule of Law don't work that way.

You have just as much right to oppose him because of his policies as I to support him because of his policies! My My isn't free speach wonderful?

4. It's not the first time he was under investigation (family involvement)
And yes he should resign if they prove he was involved.

6. Israel ignores the "Rule of Law"
You seem awfully concerned with Sharon's innocence and Israel following the Rule Of Law,yet Israel openly admits it commits extra-judicial killings.

Tell me Jason, what "Rule of Law" is that following?

8. Israel has every right as a soverign nation to defend itself.
But you knew I was going to say that didn't you? Every nation (and its even in the UN Charter) has that right. Just who in your opinion is Israel supposed to turn to to protect themselves? The Arab nations?

that Israel is a nation that follows the "rule of law" is a joke, right.

You as much as admit it yourself. So much for that. :eyes:

and on edit-yes,I did know you would say that.Just like the Republicans,Israel always has a reason why it's ok for them to do something wrong.

11. You gotta be kidding
I'd rather live in Siberia than that God forsaken violent hellhole. The idjits that choose religion over their families safety are insane in my opinion. The only reason to live in that region would be for a complete lack of any other possible and sane choices.

Why do you say Israel is a nation that follows the Rule of Law when it's so easily demonstrated that they don't do so when it suits them? And why is that double standard acceptable to you?
