Rachel Corrie fought for world she believed in
by MOLLY MCCLAIN
Seattle Post Intelligencer

Last year on the afternoon of March 16, an Israeli soldier -- intentionally, I believe -- ran over 23-year-old Rachel Corrie in the occupied territories of Palestine with an armored Caterpillar bulldozer. Rachel was trying to prevent the soldier from crashing that bulldozer into the house of a Palestinian family in Rafah. There was good reason to believe the soldier was going to demolish the house, as the Israeli army has destroyed more than 1,000 homes and misplaced nearly 15,000 people in that small town in the past two years.

Rachel chose not to live in insulated, unimaginative safety. She could picture Palestinians' plight so well that she felt moved to do something about it. She imagined and fought for a world where everyone lives in freedom, peace, equality and justice.

To people all over the world, especially in Rafah, she is a hero. If you have thought that she was just an idiotic kid who deserved to die, I ask: What kind of world do you imagine, believe in or fight for?

7. No, rchsod, you're wrong

No one can degrade Rachel or insult her memory.

All they can do is degrade themselves, and insult whatever spark of humanity stubbornly clings to their souls despite their best efforts to evict it.

2. Rachel Corrie did the right thing
It's too bad we don't have more people in this country who can see through the extreme media bias.

You are remembered honorably, Rachel, even if only through my eyes.

6. well I'll be ...
It's Dennis Prager! Who woulda thought that brainless right-wing jerk would have tried to smear a non-violent peace activist who was killed defending the home of an innocent family.

How surprising.

Hey! At the bottom of the page of your link, we can learn all about "the truth about radical Islam's plans for the United States!"

4. I don't know if she was religious or not, but her example teaches more

about the basic message of various flavors of religion than many thick books. May Allah be pleased with her.

8. Don't judge a person until you have walked a mile in his shoes
An Israeli soldier - probably an 18 year old - faced with a mob of Palestinians youth with stones and with guns destroying a house, yes, to expose a tunnel to Egypt that is used to smuggle arms and ammunition.

This is a war zone. And when you get into a war zone be prepared to be a casualty. I know that many went to Iraq to be a "shield," at least they used the correct term. And when you want to be a shield you may be blown to pieces.
