What do Paula Jones and a binational state have in common?

They are both causes for which business tycoon Abe Hirschfeld is willing to write a check.

He made headlines in 1998 by offering Paula Jones $1 million to drop her lawsuit against US president Bill Clinton. In 1993, he spent $3 million to buy the New York Post, but ran it for only 18 days when a bankruptcy judge stopped the sale.

In a quote from one of his comedy routines published in New York Magazine, Hirschfeld said, "Resurrecting the New York Post was my biggest success. Editors all ask me, 'Do you know how to write?' I said yes. They said, 'What kind of writing do you do?' I said, 'All I write is checks.'"..........
