Shin Bet arrests PA officer who facilitated Ashdod bombings

The Shin Bet internal security service arrested a Palestinian Authority preventive security service officer on June 5 for aiding Hamas in planning and carry out its March double suicide attack at the Ashdod port, it was announced on Tuesday.

Muwayin Abdel Aziz Attallah, who was serving as a PA security commander at the Karni Crossing between Israel and the Gaza Strip, also helped the two suicide bombers infiltrate into Israel. The two Hamas men, who hid in the bottom of a shipping container passing through Karni, killed 10 people in the Ashdod bombing.

Attallah, who had full access to the crossing and was well acquainted with security procedures there, admitted he advised Hamas how to infiltrate Israel and carry out the Ashdod attack.

He also told Israeli investigators he planned a second similar attack in which two Hamas suicide bombers were to have hidden in the double floor of a shipping container passing through Karni. Attallah said he was arrested a few days prior to the second planned attack.
