A resident of the community of Psagot, in the Samaria region, was refused entry to the United States due to the fact that her family was murdered by Arab terrorists.
American consular officials in Israel rejected a visa application from 21-year-old Sophia Dickstein of the community of Psagot. The reason given; she does not have enough family ties in Israel to ensure she will not remain in America. This is because Sophia’s parents and a brother were murdered by Arab terrorists in an attack in the Hevron Hills area.
Only following the intervention of the daily Yediot Ahronot newspaper did consular officials agree to reverse the decision and issue her a visa.
Following the murderous attack, the nine Dickstein children including Sophia were left alone. Sophia became the parent along with her older brother, looking out for the little ones. In addition, she began attending the “Beit HaYeled” nursing program in Netanya, where she met a number of Americans affiliated with the institution. They became good friends and remain in touch, leading to their extending an invitation to Sophia to visit their New Jersey home this month.
