Poll: 75 percent of U.S. Jews say will vote for Kerry
WASHINGTON - 75 percent of Jewish American voters will vote for Democratic candidate John Kerry in the upcoming November elections, according to a survey released Monday.

The study, summoned by the National Jewish Democratic Council, says that 75 percent of Jews polled said they would vote for Kerry, while only 22 percent said they would re-elect President George W. Bush.

The results contradict Republicans' claims that American Jewry is facing an historic change in voting habits, leading to mass support of Bush in the upcoming elections.

Republicans believed a record 40 percent of Jews would vote for Bush in November, but Monday's study shows his support has not changed significantly since the 2000 elections, when he received 19 percent of the Jewish vote.

1. Well, I think most American Jews are smart enough to resent...
... being used as pawns in "Armageddon - The Home Edition." This fundamentalist Christian "support for Israel" is pretty transparent to most people, thankfully.

2. 75% of ethnic Americans voting for Kerry...
Black Americans, Hispanic Americans, Jewish Americans, Mid-Eastern Americans, Native Americans. Little bush has rich white souther-evangelicals...maybe.

3. jewish americans are majority liberal.
bush offends our morality. sharon offends our morality.
we are careful to remember our past and will not accept becoming like the pharoh or the nazi.
blindly supporting israel and encouraging them to do wrong is _wrong_.

we love america and freedom and hate those who disrespect it.
we support israel and despise those that put the taint of hatred and blood on its promise.

5. Thank You!!
I appreciate a little rationality down here. You can love Israel and Judaism without blindly supporting a ruthless political leader (Sharon).

And by the same token, I support the right of existence of a Palestinian state, while at the same time refuse to agree with a ruthless political leader (Arafat).

4. You mean, even though Ed Koch wouldn't approve?
Democrat Koch Backs Bush

"I am convinced that Bush will never trade Israel's special relationship with the US in exchange for political support, be it domestic or international. I doubt that John Kerry would have the same resolve. Democratic are limited in their ability to serve the country well in times of crisis."

Which country are you talking about there, Ed--the U.S. or Israel?

8. Ed Koch is a big dork that supported Reagan
and clearly supports the settlers in Israel, but the dual loyalty rhetoric is very unattractive never the less. Many Jews who are liberals feel intimidated by it as well.

13. I was just being a bit of a smart arse
I'd be happy if the rules here were a little less constipated - but Gimel has several posts stating that an article is NOT about Israel/Palestine and should therefore be pulled - seems it's OK to post non Israel/Palestinian stuff if she agrees with it

14. It's about the Jewish vote
Edited on Thu Aug-19-04 12:42 PM by Gimel
There have been several articles posted about the "Jewish vote" supporting Bush.

Since this is the Democraticunderground, and founded on the principle that Democrats and liberals post here, it is appropriate. The "Jewish vote" in the US usually supports the candidate that they perceive best for Israel, or that is the claim.

If you can talk about US taxes on this forum, you can also talk about US candidates and who the Jews in the US support.

I may have noted that some articles are not about I/P, but I never said they should be pulled.

15. nitpicking
what's the difference between saying "this shouldn't be in this forum" and "this should be pulled" - all I'm saying is that you shouldn't post stuff that isn't to do with the conflict if you're going to tell other people THEY shouldn't post stuff if it's not to do with the conflict. I guess I shouldn't expect consistency

16. US support for Israel
This has always been recognized as part of the conflict. I'm not in total agreement with it, but it has been. Look how many posts and articles talk about US financial aid to Israel.

17. Discussions
Edited on Fri Aug-20-04 01:10 AM by Gimel
Others are free to discuss as they wish. I've been criticized for responding to statements from other posters, and even when there wasn't a connection to I/P.

What is connected to the conflict is often a matter of opinion. It is clear that you don't like my opinions, but there is little I can do about that.

However, if you have complaints about my posting you can always send an alert message to the mods.
