Sharon warns Israel at risk of 'civil war'

JERUSALEM - Prime Minister Ariel Sharon on Sunday warned of growing incitement in Israel, saying the heightened rhetoric against his Gaza withdrawal plan could lead to "civil war."

Sharon issued the warning at the beginning of the weekly meeting of his Cabinet.

Sharon faces significant hardline opposition to his plan to withdraw from the Gaza Strip and four West Bank settlements next year, including from opponents within his own government.

1. What a choice we face? Sharon vs the religious rabble!
Normally we would be saying that Sharon is engaging in his usual demagoguery stoking the flames of fear in order to score a political victory. This time, however, the lunatic fringe opposing Sharon is real, and they have a long history of violence. The sad truth that were it not for the intifada and terrorism, Israel would have exploded in a civil war a long time ago.

Civil war is inevitable!

Major Clusterfuck in Israel. If the Palestinians are not given their right to self-determination soon, there will be some violent clashes in the future. Oh but wait, the ultra-right Israelis will not even compromise any land exchanges - even in the Gaza Strip!!! My God, Middle East Politics is rife with insanity on ALL SIDES!!!

Iraqis, trained and encouraged by the US, are killing the "insurgents," and, as usual, many innocents failed to escape.

7. Sharon has his own religious nut cases to worry about, and they are
every bit as much a part of the problem as the religious nut cases on the other side.
