Kerry: 'Security of Israel non-negotiable'
Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry on Friday said the US needed to train police officers, as Israel does, to "think differently about terror," and said the US-Israel alliance and the "survival and security of Israel are non-negotiable."

Kerry's comments about Israel, which delighted some Democratic activists who feared he was not speaking frequently enough about the US-Israel relationship to please Jewish voters, came during one of his most forceful foreign policy addresses to date, in which he attacked President George W. Bush for shifting the focus away from al Qaeda to Iraq, and pledged to fight a "tougher, smarter, more effective war on terror."

The speech in Philadelphia was a follow-up to another foreign policy speech in New York four days earlier, in which Kerry also described the Iraq war - which he endorsed with a vote in the Senate - as a profound diversion from the war on terror.

Turning to the need for democracy in the Middle East, Kerry said, "Let it be clear that the issue here is advancing democracy in Arab nations, not yielding to pressure to undermine Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East. Our alliance with Israel, the survival and security of Israel, are non-negotiable. The only solution is a Jewish state of Israel living side by side in security and peace with a democratic Palestinian state."

4. Stupid Palestinians!
How dare they want their freedom!

John Kerry is right. Only Israel has a right to be safe and free. He's also right about them being the only democracy in the ME. Even though Jordan elects their leaders, they're not the color that the US likes. Therefore, they're not a democracy.

I had to throw in my share of sarcasm.

6. This begs the old question "Is Israel a true democracy?"
Sad to see that Kerry is just banging on the same old drum. He
keeps saying what he will do, but not how he will do it.

7. I had not noticed anyone trying to negotiate it.
Just seems to be a lot of stupid fighting back and forth.
Is that what we really want?

8. Weepin' Creepin' Jesus!
"The only solution is a Jewish state of Israel living side by side in security and peace with a democratic Palestinian state."

Funny how this was the case in Palestine already when the great Catastrophe inundated Jews and Arabs in Israeli violence and conquest. Jews and Arabs had peacefully coexisted for centuries until these hordes of Americans and Europeans came claiming their God-given "right" to this land. No nation can claim to be a "democracy" when it occupies the territory of another people and suppresses them with a Police State. if that is not the essensce of anti-democracy, what is? And yes, I would include the US in this. Kerry and Edwards are dead wrong on Israel if they think the present status quo is acceptable. I plan to join many others in demanding they stick to Democratic principles in dealing with the Palestinian crisis and not support Israeli depotism with our treasure and weapons of destruction. We will be untiring and unflagging in our efforts. The rest of the world is beginning to take action too. I applaude all boycotts of Israel.

I wouldn't call it fascism exactly, but a political system nominally controlled by an irresponsible, dumbed down electorate who are manipulated by dishonest, cynical, controlled mass media that dispense the propaganda of a corrupt political establishment can hardly be described as democracy either: Edward Zehr
