Political Research Associates (Chip Berlet) exposes Fletcher Prouty's ...
extreme RW alliances:

http://www.publiceye.org/gsearchresults.html?cx=011032660137154094571%3Azugoiswk3su&cof=FORID%3A11&q=Prouty&sa=Search#940

By contrast, do a search at their site for John McAdams (who JFK assassination conspiracy buffs love to bash) and the only entry you'll see is where PRA cites McAdams' exposure of Prouty's extreme RW alliances. Oh, my. Looks like the buffs will need to find a more believable source than Prouty. 0f course, the most delicious irony is while the buffs are yammering about MC Adams' supposed "RW hate", many of them are relying upon someone like Prouty, whose RW credentials are verifiable.

The most interesting point, of course, is that conspiracy theories are far more the province of the RW than progressives, unless, of course, you're a JFK assassination conspiracy buff. Progressives, indeed.

1. When it comes to Carto and "The Spotlight"
and all the ilk associated with these revisionists it get awfully difficult to discern much of a gap between extreme left and ring wingers.

5. Dude...for starters, read "RW Populism in America"
Edited on Sun Jul-26-09 11:54 PM by SDuderstadt
Where do you think conspiracy theories about the Federal Reserve start? Would you agree that, in general, progressives are better educated than RWers? Do you not understand that the genesis of most conspiracy theories is ignorance? Do you honestly see progressives as prone to conspiracy theories? Read the report below from Political Research Associates, dude:

http://www.publiceye.org/conspire/toxic2democracy/Toxic-2D-all-rev-04.pdf

Then ask yourself these questions:

Why is the 9/11 forum referred to as the "dungeon"?
Why do threads which actually should be down here but are initially posted in general discussion driven down here?
Have you ever read what most of the people at DU have to say about this forum?
Do you think skeptics and critical thinkers are likely to be RW??

Jesus, your ignorance of even the most basic matters is frustrating.

6. Fletcher Prouty was a good man...
Here's what Prouty said on the subject of the Liberty Lobby:

Col. L. Fletcher Prouty Responds to Accusations of Involvement in Right Wing Extremist Groups
Interview Date: April 3, 1996

"Esquire magazine published an article, in which they just made up these things, I've never written for Liberty Lobby. I've spoken as a commercial speaker, they paid me to speak and then I left. They print a paragraph or two of my speech same as they would of anybody else, but I've never joined them. I don't subscribe to their newspaper, I never go to their own meetings, but they had a national convention at which asked me to speak and they paid me very, very well. I took my money and went home and that's it". I go to the meeting, I go home, I don't join.

That sole speech was years ago and was no different than the speech I gave at the Holocaust Memorial Conference. I spoke my own words and ideas.

I do admit to having been a rather active public speaker for all types of audiences, on a commercial except for Rotary, They're gratuitous from my point of view.

"The funny thing was two months earlier I had spoken at the Holocaust Conference for the second annual meeting of the Holocaust Group which I learned later the Liberty Lobby is completely opposed to. Dr. Littel, of the Holocaust Memorial organization invited me to attend and make a few comments,as others were requested.

Col. Prouty has been asked to attend at the Holocaust Conference again later this year !

Well, they put all this in this Esquire magazine but did it all backwards, as though I was a member, writing with these people or joining them.
The only club I've joined is the Rotary Club !".

The attempt of character assassination is a sign you have become a small threat. Others, at the levels I know of, have played up that as though I had been converted to something. It is just their "gentlemanly" tactic of dealing with people they can't handle otherwise.. In fact it is a CIA characteristic trait...as I well know. When they can't handle you, they attack your character.

Interesting how quickly Prouty, after helping Oliver Stone with "JFK," became the target of a smear campaign.

7. Prouty was an Air Force Colonel... of course he was rightwing
Edited on Thu Jan-21-10 03:48 PM by CrunchMaster
How many leftwing Air Force Colonel's do you know of? Doesn't mean that Fletcher Prouty is liar. I haven't done a ton of research on him but what I have read didn't seem all that out of line with what others have said about the CIA. You are simplifying something that is very complicated. The rightwingers are tied at the hip to the U.S. Military and CIA. When the CIA decides to burn someone that used to work for them, odds are the ones getting burned will be right leaning. Intelligence and Military are mainly run by rightwingers.

Just because someone is rightwing doesn't mean the stuff they are exposing is lies. A lot of rightwingers have been very close to the evil being done in this country by some of our agencies. Might be worth our while to listen to them. The rightwingers that you want to be wary of are the ones tied into 9/11 and are spreading disinformation about 9/11 to cover up their complicity. I see no evidence Prouty is one of those.

But yes, thanks for the links. I'm reading them... associations with the Spotlight is never a good thing. But I have to read more to draw a conclusion on this guy.
