My Absentee Ballot Instructions are FUCKED UP!!! Gilpin County Colorado

so we received our absentee ballots today and here are the instructions:

Secrecy Envelope/Sleeve Official Instructions Gilpin County 1. To vote, completely fill in the oval beside the candidates/issue you choose on your ballot with a plack ink pen, as shown here:

In another set of instructions:

Your vote will be counted by an optical mark reader. Make your mark(s) clear and distince. Use only a lead pencil.


HOLY SHIT!!! so it says to use a friggin pen then says to use a pencil! essentially anyone who doesn't take the time to call the county clerk will probably use pen and will probably have their ballots thrown out!

who should i call about this?

If your vote will not be counted by an optical device, that must mean the absentee ballots will be counted by hand. In that case, why does it matter what you use?

3. and to top it off...

...the ballot is supposed to be placed in the "secrecy envelope/sleeve" before being placed in the return envelope, but....when you do so....your ballot number does not appear in the return envelope window underneath which reads "make sure your ballot number appears in the window"

4. It also doesn't say what lead weight to use

Just hold it up to the light and check the opacity.
Either will work.

use the media blaster, get the word out....

get the word out...expect that the voting team will have to reprint and resend all ballots.

and finally...kick it to the DNC and the KE website....

8. okay...

... i just got off the phone with our county clerk-type-person who assured me that ballots that are not read by the machine (i.e. any that are marked with pens) are kicked out, assessed by a "judge" for reason why it was kicked out, put back through and if kicked out again and determined to be valid but marked with pen, are hand-counted. i am going to continue to research this and will post here if i find out anything different.
