Why *is* this election so important to Republicans???

They're stressed about it almost as much as we are, but we're trying to remove a crazed tyrant from power - well that's how we see it.

But there's no denying he's ultra-conservative and on a path a lot of people don't like. Nobody likes the economy.

Kerry, by contrast, is pretty much a moderate. I don't see the urgency on their side, while I see 100% why it's on our side.

If we were running against Ford or Eisenhower or even McCain or Dole, I wouldn't think that the Earth was in the balance, but this is different.

It's just weird, are they really *that* partisan?

We as a group, work the same jobs in the same towns, pay the same bills and send our kids to the same schools. That's what makes it even more confusing to me. They are fighting to maintain their own state of repression.

The Supreme Court *is* important because it can influence our lives for long after the President leaves office. The most liberal judge, John Paul Stevens, is I think 85 or 86. Right now, the balance is 5-4 on many crucial decisions.

It makes folks feel good to see themselves as mighty crusaders, even if they are, in reality, pawns.

Think of this, when Kerry gets into the White house, he can declassify all of the crap that the shrub classified.

They want to completely control all facets of gov, from federal to state to local.

The people in control of the current Republican party do not tolerate debate, dissent, or compromise.

It truly scares me, because in the past I ve see Repubs & Dems in control, but it was never like this.

With George, their personal taxes are cut and cut and cut, their corporations' taxes are cut, capital gains taxes are eliminated, estate taxes eliminated. They can rape and pillage the environment, do away with legislation that stops them from exploiting their labor force, make it easier for their kids to go to the best schools because poorer students won't be able to compete financially - I could go on and on.

They've been trying to turn this country into a third - world type country since Reagan, with extremely wealthy elite and the poverty-stricken masses. Their hand is now in the cookie jar and they aren't going to let go of the cookies without smashing the jar. We have to stop them.

It's all of the reasons posted and more. The Neo Fascists view the world as needing to be dominated. The Multi-Natl. Corps want expansion and nueter the Middle Class of America and turn them into The Working Poor. The so-called Christian Right want Old Testament Theocracy in America. The Republican Party is at the brink of splitting into three pieces if the don't retain the power they now hold.

My worry is that they will pull something drastic if they see defeat.

34. I've said it before and I'll say it again

The Republican party has two factions, the moderates (a la McCain, Hagel, Chafee) and the neocons (BushCo). The neocons are very much the more powerful. A Republican president (doesn't matter who he is) is the only thing that holds these two wings together. The future of the Republican party hangs on this election. If Bush loses, the moderates have an opening to attack the neocons for incompetence or bad management, triggering a split that will send shockwaves through the rank and file. The Republicans will be relegated to minor party status for a few election cycles. If on the other hand, Bush wins. The neocons are likely to flip a big "Fuck You!" to the moderates, do whatever the hell they want, break everything, and provoke a 2008 voter revolt against the Republicans. Unfortunately, either the moderates do not realize this or think that the unity of the current party is paramount to the reformation and realignment of the party to mainstream American values.

That's my take, what's yours?
