Did anyone else crack up when Bush mentioned the Dredd Scott case...
as an example when he was talking about of what kind of Supreme Court Justices he wouldn't appoint.

HILARIOUS.

"I won't appoint anyone who is pro-slavery."

2. My jaw dropped about three feet.
Especially since the decision was thought, at the time, to have been the result of a narrow-minded interpretation of the law.

4. In a rational world...
every host on every channel would be repeating all the ridiculous statements made by Shrub endlessly. So far, nary a word. Do they feel sorry for him? If the shoe were on the other foot, Kerry would have been roasted, toasted and ridden out of town on a rail.

5. I was proud. He pronounced it correctly!
Small victory, true, but still a victory.
Now, if he only knew what it stood for.

19. He chose it deliberately.
Only two syllables. Easy to pronounce.

...because it was the only thing he could remember from elementary history class.

Some knew exactly what he was talking about. This guy can't be allowed to win and appoint SC judges.

I did when he asked, "Is my time up yet?" and it turned out to be not even half way through - or so it seemed.

11. I laughed at how he flubbed his answer, but I knew he was sending
a message to the Fundamentalists. They use Dred Scott as a precedent of why abortion, all abortion, should be illegal. Most progressives don't keep up with what the loonies are doing.

Bush* is an idiot, but his keepers programmed that answer into his pea sized brain. It was purely for the fanatical base. Kerry should have pounced on it, but didn't.

12. Yes, I roared - What an ignorant thing to say.

However, it's probably just the only case he can recall because it is generally believed to be the all-time worst decision by the court.
the second worst is, of course, how he got where he is. Ironic that he would allude to the second at the same time as Dred Scott.

I think what he was really trying to convey was that he didn't really want to turn back the clock 150 years. 100 or 125 maybe, but not 150. It good to know he doesn't favor slavery, except maybe wage slavery.

I guess David Duke is not in running for Supreme Court seat after all.

14. If I am not mistaken , but did'nt Bush* major in History ?
And sounded as if he did not have a clue of what the Dred Scott case was about at all . He ended that topic as quickly as he started it . What an idiot .

15. Couldn't believe it!
My first reaction was, Is he trying to repeal Slavery?
Then I realize, that was his signal to his BASE and the Right to Lifers that He will get Roe V Wade repealed.

And if not, it will be for the next guy to mention.

18. It wasn't ignorance.
Google "dred scott abortion" (without the quotes) and see what comes up. He's basically saying that any supreme court justices he appoints will be anti-choice.

22. he was on a fishing expedition down at the old memory hole
desperate to sound edumacated. Unless he was wearing a wire I don't think he's astute enough to make the Scott/Roe v Wade association. Regardless, it sounded like gibberish. I was delighted and appalled.
